iDrive Screen Displaying Just A Blank Red Screen

Hi everyone

My wife started the car up this morning and everything was fine. She stopped for fuel and when she started the engine up again the iDrive screen went blank and it is just displaying a red screen.

Anyone know how to reboot the iDrive on these models? Mine has Sat Nav Pro, telematics etc, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Try pressing and holding the volume button on the cic for 25-30 seconds. If the reset is successful BMW screen will appear on the screen.

Thank you for yor quick reply. I will give it a go when I get home.

It's booked into the dealership to see if their computers can see what happened as they said it may need replacing or a software update.

Well holding the button in as suggested above works. By all accounts this works if you have the CIC interface. To identify this is easy enough. If you have buttons aroudn the idrive controller you have CIC.

My X1 went into the dealership yesterday and no faults were found and no error codes had been stored. They said they had looked at the technical forums the dealerships have access to and people have reported a yellow screen, a blue screen but no one has reported a red screen! Typical.

So they are putting it down to a glitch. It hasn't done it since and I rebooted the idrive as a precaution too..

I just had the exact same thing happen on my 2010 M6. I started it up and the CIC displayed nothing but red. I restarted the car a couple of times and it didn't help. I tried again after about 20 minutes and things seem to be back to normal. I'm going to try the reboot trick, anyway.

Isn't it marvelous in this age of technology that one may be forced to reboot their car? Come on...

I'm glad it's not just me then! :-) Your totally right though, having to reboot your car is a joke.

I had a E90 previous to this one and every so often the CD/Radio wouldn't output any sound. As usual the dealership had never heard of this problem before. So I found out how to reboot the iDrive and hey presto - sound again!

The red screen has returned! NOOOOOO. My wife was out in the car the other day and she got home and said the screen went red and then just went blank. I went back out to the car turned it on and everything was working ok. Anyone else had this happen to them yet?

Nope.
Sounds like it only happened to your wife... ah.
Maybe she doesn't want you to know where she went shopping ?
