Move the wiper stalk towards you. There are three settings. If you pull it towards you completely it does a wash and a wipe. Middle is off and away from you is on.

BY the way, dont lose the back wiper, it will cost you nearly 30 USD. Yeah, because its BMW, other compatible wipers are like 10 USD. Not even in this you save yourself lol...

Wow. So does it mean that the rear wiper has been running non-stop for almost 4000km?

Question Rear wiper arc

I just got my new X1 and noticed that the rear windshield wiper only goes 3/4 of the total 180 degree arc. When I asked the sales rep, he said that it is normal and that all X-series rear wipers are made to only go part of the way.

Is this true?

I can't find any documentation explaining this and honestly it looks just a tad weird to have only part of the back windshield cleaned.

Mine does the same. Does look a little odd when the rear screen is very dirty.

Agree, one of the few gripes I have with the X1. Seems a bad design. Also the rear demister is an arc only covering about 50% of the window. Even my Mini has edge to edge demisting.

The demisting is especially odd when you consider there are wires all over the window, so it LOOKS like it should do the whole thing. No idea what the other wires are for - I assume possibly part of the aerial system.

The wires are for the defroster.

Er... Yes, I know - as per my post, the thing is there are wires where the defroster/demister does not work - so whilst they are there, they don't do anything - hence my wondering if they are part of the aerial system instead.

Interesting point this. I also initially thought that they were part of the demister but as you say, they don't actually "demist". Also thought they may simply be the "leads" for the demister but they are too extensive for this. Which comes back to the original question, what are they.

Anyone?

A few years ago they were used as part of the diversity antenna on other cars. So maybe leftovers from that era as cost-cutting continues.
