BMW Software upgrade - iOS compatibility.

Hi there,

I like you have seen the iOS / iPhone out feature that BMW have been testing. I've read mixed reports saying that this will only be available for vehicles after March 2011.

Will this be backwards compatible, ie to all us current X1 owners?
I've downloaded the BMW app from the app store. Currently I use the internet radio (great feature) but of course the rest are useless.

Does anyone know the real story?
- Can existing users upgrade software
- Is there an update in March, or is it just new vehicles??

Thanks

I am afraid this is a good question to your dealer or BMW insider. Do we have any on this board?

Hi,

There will be no software upgrade. The USB-Interface and Bluetooth interfaces that connect to mp3 players phones and the iPhone were changed in 2010. From Sept/2010 all BMWs (at least for the european market) get the new "combox" which is usb and bluetooth in one control unit.

The new features like calender and e-Mail sync or BT-Audio-Streaming etc. are only available thru the new combox. To make things worse there are no supported retrofitting options for the new combox.

The only "new" thing that is available with your "old" Sat Nav Prof is the google street view integration of your selected destination destination. This is deeply hidden in within the BMW online Menu and not really that cool.

bye

hi,
I have a question, how can you connect your phone to the car? I have tried connecting it to f10 and e70 and had no luck...

It seems that there will be a retrofit option for the F10 (new 5-series):

But not for the E83?

BMW should provide us with upgrade options, at least during the first year after purchase. This is something I would be willing to pay for...
