2014 x1 or 2010 SRT8

I really can't decide between a new 35i X1 Msport or a 2010 Jeep SRT8 w/ 20,000 miles on it. They are both just under $40k. Any former Jeep owners on here? Any advice/feedback? Thanks.

My buddy had one, drove his a couple of times... Real quick and fun in a straight line, doesn't handle half as good as the x1, and horrible mpg...

A friend has one as well. Comfortable ride, great engine sound, but it isn't sporty IMO. More tank like than sports car like.

Driven plenty of Jeeps. I wouldn't own one if it were given to me. What can I say, it's a Chrysler product...the last one I owned was a '70 Road Runner. I actually miss THAT car.
Go for the BMW.

As was said, great straight line power and sucks gas. Not sure what the maintenance is like but lack of warranty verses a new car would be a consideration.

If it were me, I would put the warranty, maintenance and technology my top priority!

Go for the BMW.
You obviously haven't driven the SRT-8. It's not your standard Jeep

Thanks for the feedback, haven't actually driven either one yet. Going this upcoming weekend to drive both and compare. Would the x1 35i with a stage 2 BMS tune be quicker than that big hemi?

Yes, significantly so. Car and driver has the srt8 at 13.3 1/4 mile. The 35i should beat that on the stage 2 tune and significantly beat it on e85.

Not if the same Jeep had a simple CMR Tune.

I owned a 2008 SRT8, it was fun to drive, a beast of the line, however after 2 years of ownership the Jeep just didn't feel as solid anymore. The build quality was no where as good as a german made vehicle.

Compared to the X1 i35 I have, the Jeep felt faster of the line, but the handling was not as good as the X1.

The stock SRT got 10-12 MPG, I'm getting 21-23 with agressive driving in the X1

I would consider the new Jeep SRT8, but not at the $65k price tag dealers are asking. I wouldn't but a preowned SRT based on my previous ownership.

Having had both I would go with the X1 unless you need more cargo space and are willing to sacrifice build quality.

BMW vs Jeep

Please read the Consumer Reports reviews for Jeep models. You'll buy the BMW.
