Nevada Leather - hot crossed buns
Hi All-
I'm new around here and to Bimmers in general. I live in CA and my X1 i35 has the Nevada leather in Oyster. Is is me or does this material make your buns super warm? On hot days it almost feels like the seat warmers are on, to the point where I put my hand down to check. Has anyone else noticed this? Maybe I'm just a hottie (45 year old out of shape guy so not so much), maybe my seat warmer is broken, or maybe they just don't breathe very well. I do have tint all around but still feel like I'm roasting, even on 75 degree days where it's not THAT warm. This summer I'll see 100+ for weeks at a time where I live, should I be concerned? The heaters are great, not overly impressed with the a/c. Hmmm In an effort to be a good new member I promise I did for Nevada Leather but didn't find anything about overly warm butts. |

a windshield shade is key. We have the black nevada leather in ours and the seats get super hot without them.
Our old E90 with oyster leather got hot too but the black leather is (obviously) worse. Another idea to try is to run your ac in "manual" mode, and not auto set to a temperature. I think this makes the AC output consistently cold air. |

Keep in mind not all window tints block out heat the same. We opted for the more expensive 3M cera-something films (forget the name) and they do a wonderful job where the car stays cool in the sun. Others we checked out didn't block out heat at all, so that might be something to look into.
The windshield sun shade with a reflective side is also very important. Both make a night and day difference. |

I have a windshield reflector and that helps, but I'm also talking about being in the seat for anything over 40 minutes at a time. It's not just the initial 'ow-we these things are hot from baking in the sun' but also they just don't seem to breathe. I get kinda clammy and that's probably t.m.i. but such is the beauty of the intrawebz. My Lexus had these cool seat fans that didn't work like true a/c but it did move some air. Maybe I just got used to it so now straight leather seats feel hot and I need to re-calibrate my butt.
I'll try setting the a/c manually and see if that helps, good suggestion. |

It might be worth checking if your seat heater is somehow activating? One last thing is that I think the "eco pro" button reduces the AC power, so I don't use that anymore. In the F30, you can tell eco pro not to reduce the AC, but there's no such option in our E84 Other than that, I don't have any other guesses.. I haven't experienced this, whether the seats are vinyl (e90, f30), leather (e84, e89) or cloth (f80).... |

You also might consider these settings in your vehicle.
Parked-car ventilation The concept The parked-car ventilation blows air into the passenger compartment to lower interior temperatures. The system can be switched on and off at any external temperature, either directly or by using a preset switch-on time. It remains switched on for 30 minutes. Since the system uses a substantial amount of electrical current, refrain from activating it twice in succession without allowing the battery to be recharged in normal operation between use. Open the vents to allow air to flow out. They can be operated via iDrive. Switching on/off directly 1. "Settings" 2. "Climate 3. "Activate parked-car vent." The symbol on the automatic climate control flashes if the system is switched on. Pre-selecting activation times 1. "Settings" 2. "Climate" 3. "Activate Timer 1" or "Activate Timer 2" 4. "Timer 1:" or "Timer 2:" 5. Set the desired time. The symbol on the automatic climate control lights up when the switch-on time is activated. The symbol on the automatic climate control flashes when the system has been switched on. The system will only be switched on within the next 24 hours. After that, it needs to reactivated |

Hi weak_link,
I got Sheepskin/Lambswool, good quality covers from a Car Place. They only do the middle part of the seat and help quite a bit especially on long trips in my hot climate. I got these before Airbag Compatible Seat Covers were available but still use them. The Subaru I had before had this type as an accessory. I also have Window Tinting, the Maximum Legally Darkest I can go. You should be able to get Sheepskin Covers that do the full seat that are Airbag Compatable BUT some will say why get Leather Seats then cover them up. If your uncomfortable, do what is best for you. Good luck. |
