$29,300 worth of options

Just checking a site in Australia where you can build up an X1 online. Interesting to see just how carried away you could get on the options.

Ouch. You didn't even pick all the most expensive ones !

Although I'm not sure it makes sense to pick them separately... Panoramic glass roof for instance is part of the X-Line package... And 2200 buck for a memory driver's seat which is I think part of another pack (at least here in France) ? Some of those options are billed at an obscene price !

Hmm.

Don't know if that site is accurate. Don't think it is a BMW one. They spell "Nevada" as "Navada".
I also don't see any packaging of options -- surely they do this in Oz?

In Croatia we only got MSport package, and Comfort package (1200 EUR worth abouts). Hence it's just tick individually what you want...

Interesting to see things on the list that are standard here.

If I tally up my options on that list I get $14628 = £9000

My options here in the UK cost £8000 so not a huge difference.

The prices are fairly accurate. But I don't believe they include the dealer's margin on each of the option or the luxury car tax if the total price of the car is over a certain threshold.

A lot of the options aren't packaged in Australia for the X1.

No it's no BMW original, it was on a site for a car broker. It can be hard to get full info on option pricing sometimes, but thought it might be useful as a guide for new buyers or just for interest sake. Packaging of options is sometimes available it seems, but I think only to the same degree as europe. I think BMW Aust are trying to maintain BMW as a prestige brand as long as they can and tend to import models with quite a few options as standard. eg we can't have just cloth seats, but have sensatech faux leather, we have steering wheel controls, auto aircon, cargo barrier, etc as standard so have to pay for it without the choice of going more basic from the start. they don't want cheaper cars out there I suppose, or it would undervalue current vehicles.

The prices quoted by my dealer for accessories seem to be around 30% higher than those listed in the original post ... do other Aussie X1 buyers find the same?

Stamp Duty in Tasmania is 4% which could account for some of the difference, and GST could also be a factor?

My dealer's initial prices for various models are WELL over RRP on the BMW Aust website. The website states BMW Aust do not support discounting and that dealers are free to charge a premium over and above the website RRP's. I can't remember how much extra my dealer wanted initially. Pricing for the options was not too far off the list above. With Luxury car tax I don't know when it's charged, but I think the threshold has something to do with fuel economy/diesel motors. If you have gone into the realm of LCT being charged then suddenly every extra dollar spent above the threshold would probably have 30% or something added???

Try not to lose sleep over it too much... I see your car is due for delivery any day now.

As far as the broker list above, well if they can buy you a car wholesale from BMW Aust and have it optioned out at the basic pricing then it's a no brainer for them to be able to easily undercut dealers and still make plenty of money without having to leave their desk, pay for demo cars, building, staff, etc. You'd have to wonder though how you'd get on with dealing with a BMW dealer thereafter for servicing, warranty work etc.

Yep ... did some research after I posted ... the difference is indeed the Luxury Car Tax which normally kicks in at $57,466 (excluding on roads), unless fuel consumption doesn't exceed 7l/100kms, in which case the LCT threshold is $75,375. The 23d qualifies for the increased threshold, but because my car is so heavily optioned, the LCT applies to the accessories.

Despite that, I got quite a good discount off the full price, so still quite happy ....... and waiting patiently ....... delivery any day now!

Out of interest, which car broker site did you use to be able to see the price of options? I just can't find any site no matter how hard I search that shows the prices of X1 extras in Australia.

My apologies, I was referring to the original poster who got a price list from a car broker's website (probably should have quoted the post!).

Prices are available in 2 locations - the link above and also carsales.

Just out of interest, I priced an X1 23D with options that brought it to the same equipment level as the X3 20D. There was very little in it.

Wondering why you are going with the X1 over the X3? Both are under consideration here.
