Didn't know the difference of approximately one hot girlfriend between the E90 and F80 made the difference between porker and not... Most of that can be made up with option specs.

I'm not comparing e9x to F8x. Comparing it to pervious generations. I loved the S65.

"Will" shoot up? It's already happening. E39 M5 well on its way and E46 M3 is getting there as well. Partially we have Enthusiast Auto to "thank" for cornering the market on clean examples and jacking prices up.

Well it's nice and dandy as a weekend car but many pple don't have the option to keep multiple cars so to that I'd say I go for new car every day.
Older cars had poor reliability ratings, often have issues with daily driver needs (a/c, etc), and are not that much cheaper to maintain vs. new cars....

Probably a small nudge in price. The engines (along with the e9x) are the last of the naturally aspirated engines and the only V10 and V8 respectively. I'm not sure they'll be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in the future, but I see a small price bump in the future.

When looking at used car values, you can't ignore inflation, which has increased quite a bit even since 04, and the ridiculous valuations of used cars at the moment.

Basically they're the last of a dying breed. He's saying they'll become collectibles

My take on the value of M cars. Is that as further in time we go. Technology is slowly taking the "control or fun" out of driving.

The ///M cars gives us that freedom to drive with our hearts and mind.

That essence will drive the sales and value.

The better BMW get the more heritage and lineage gets attached to our cars.

I think the E71 ///M owners have a peculiar advantage.

That model is the first of the crossover high performance variants.

Urus, F-Pace, ZDX, Levante, GLE, Bentayaga

Look at the influence that model created alone.
The book is still being written. I'll give it until the the third gen X6M comes out and we gon be some savvy OG E71 owners.

Anyone notice the girl in the background at 9:38 flipping her hair unconsciously as the M3 drives by?

I dunno, I feel like that doesn't do the car justice. I don't ever plan to sell my 3 M's but it is comforting to know that the prices will keep going up (manual transmission + NA = win). However, they're all drivers. I bought them with medium to higher miles, so they'll never be collector cars IMO. Might as well enjoy the living hell out of them!
I have to agree. We love cars right? Drive them! Take it from someone who just survived cancer. These are the good old days. Go and enjoy them! You never know what's around the next curve.

Daddy Doug took too long to get to the real reason why they are increasing in price:

The way they drive, it's that simple. BMW ditched its traditional driving dynamics and "feel" of their cars when the E89 Z4 released in '09 and every subsequent model thereafter. They've become numb and disconnected ever since, resembling Audis in character by being fast but being a snooze to drive. These E46s and E39s were the purest expression of BMW driving dynamics and made the driver feel at one with the car and the road.

E9X ///M3 variants will also begin increasing in value within the next few years. The Bangle cars were the last generation of BMWs that still drove like BMWs.

Save for the M2/3/4, I have no more interest in the brand. I will look at Porsche in the future. Their cars have also been somewhat watered down due to EPS, but they are still a hoot to drive.

I noticed her as well but it's difficult to tell if she has a good face or not lol.

I don't think she even noticed the car, looked glued to her phone or something.

Nothing comes close to the s65's throttle response, not even the 911 turbo. I sure do miss mind.

E60 M5's won't ever really appreciate in value because of their absolute horrible reliability. I even heard BMW stopped making SMG transmissions now, so good luck finding a new one WHEN your unit fails.

I wouldn't mind paying $50k USD for a mint E39 M5 now or in the future. I think the narrator nails it when he talks about the last BMW's to really drive like the "Ultimate Driving Machine." I myself am looking forward to the G20 340i if they offer it here in America with an optional Manual Transmission, not for the driving feel, but to just drive a new and modern regular BMW again that is smooth, quite, and analog with all of the new technology that I do actually like. I'd be willing to bet that a 2019 G20 M340i will squeak out a better lap time than an E46 M3 too.

The problem with buying a used E46 M3 or E39 M5 in mint condition and paying those kinds of prices is that you can't have those cars as your only car, even if you have a plenty of money. One, because it would be a shame to put so many miles on those mint examples for use as a daily driver, but two, because they are so sparse on technology that it actually limits their practicality as an "only" car. When these cars do appreciate in value to the levels that the narrator talks about, the only people who will be buying them are the people who will be adding them to their collection of vehicles of garage queens.

The naturally aspirated 911's were a thrill to drive, and throttle response was instantaneous. They couldn't match the noise, though.

Careful. Enthusiast Auto does a stellar job picking up lower than market value cars, completing an inspection, parts refresh, detail and then pricing at the creme-de-la-creme value. Their cars are not always the best examples... still a dealership with return on investment in mind.

Daily driving a 2007 Z4M coupe since 2015 - arguably part of this collector category. Mine is a collector spec color and in great shape. Averaging 12K miles a year and maintenance isn't really an issue - zero to no depreciation, easy DIY and a fair entry price point. Still cheap to pick up and drive these for the comparative value they provide!

Sparse on tech? What must-have technology are these cars missing?

As long as you're ready to pay the Porsche tax.. I have an M6GC prior to to that I had a panamera. I love both cars. I looked into the latest model panamera and the leases stink and the dealer would give little to no discount on a purchase. The Gap in price to me doesn't equal the gap in performance when looking at similarly equipped M cars. The value is with BMW when compared to Porsche.

The E46 M3s are slightly increasing in value.
I bought a low mile E46 M3 back in 2015.
Judging by the market trend these days, I can still sell mine at the same price I purchased.
