Holes in Cargo liner

Came across this old thread. Basically there seems to be trim pieces missing with the cargo liners. They are under the rear speakers area. Ran down to garage to check and true enough my X1 is missing those too!

Same here. I just assumed it was for ventilation.

Ventilation? For what? The tiny rear speakers?
There gotta be a more elegant way to whatever BMW wanted to achieve than simply leaving 4 square holes. Imagine your home ceiling with for square holes....?!

Well, it's not visible unless you put your head in the cargo area and look up, so it's not really a cosmetic issue. It's not like they're in the headliner.

Car chassis have flaps that allow air to exit the car in these rear quarter panels. When you slam a door, the flaps open to let the air rush out rather than let air pressure build. That's probably what these are for. Air escapes here when you have the HVAC system on as well.
