Rear Passenger Ventilation: Adequate or Unacceptable?

For those who operate their X1's in climates that reach 90-100+ in the summer and below freezing in the winter, do you wish the rear cabin had its own set of vents (at the rear of the center tunnel or in the B-pillars)? Or is the system fine with air only coming from the front only (and I understand beneath the front seats too?).

Does it matter whether we're talking about heating vs. cooling? (For example, does the X1 perform acceptably in heating in the winter because heat from the footwells under the front seats rises, but the same vents provide no noticeable cooling effect in the summer?)

It gets rather warm here in the central valley of California in the summer and so far this summer it wasn't too bad. Cooled down the front seats pretty quick and it definitely took longer for the rear...but it was acceptable I think. Could it have been better? Sure! And I do wish there were rear air vents that could directed at the body/face. I ALWAYS use a sunshade when parked though and I keep the rear cargo area covers in place (figure this might somewhat reduce the area requiring cooling).

I'm sure tinting the windows would help considerably as well. I haven't yet done that but hope to before next spring/summer.

Remember we have entry level BMW. We won't get all the perks like more expensive beamers. Now that I am done venting...pardon the pun. It should be standard to have true adjustable vents for rear occupants for a $30k or $40k vehicle. It is an older model and is small so maybe engineers thought it was not needed plus HVAC is strong

Down here in the Florida Panhandle it gets bloody hot. My Grandsons are my usual rear seat passengers. Whenever I ask them if they are cool enough, they always say yes, in fact several times they have asked me to make it warmer.

The air volume inside the car is too big to not have rear vents. The problem i think it is because the inside is based on the 1 series hatch and 1 series is the only one without rear vents.

With tinted windows it's fine. Without, I'd imagine it's inadequate.

Funny that someone mentioned it being derived from the 1&3 series. My first BMW was an M Coupe that clearly had the stock AC from a normal Z3. Even with tinted windows, anything over 90 made for a very warm car.

The car is tiny you don't need rear vents. Put on MAX A/C and the car cools pretty quickly.

It has rear vents but they are under the front seats and face towards the rear. Put you front seat forward and you will see them. Would I prefer center stack definitely but it does have them.

These are rear footwell vents. The flow coming out of them when heater/ac is on auto is close to none. In order to direct the flow through them one should put the ac on max and set on foot vents only.

I like the X1, but since we were shopping for a family vehicle we went for the X3.. the rear vents were a consideration (not to mention size). I wouldn't mind looking at the X1 again as a second vehicle though where the kid(s) won't be primarily riding.

We just roll the windows down - the dog prefers fresh air flowing over her ears.

More seriously we rarely have people in the back but have not had any complaints.

Or you can lay on the floor behind the seat.

Based on the E91 xDrive, not 1 series.

And every car I've had with rear vents have had such weak output they are only really for show, not effective at all.

The chassis is based on the E91 (not mandatory the x drive though), the interior is based on the 1 series.

For what it is worth, meaning my comment, I have not had an issue with passengers in the rear seat of my X1 and air flow. However, I would have preferred a center stack (vents) as personally I like to direct air. Then again, I'm always driving

Which itself was based on the E9x. We had an E82, a buddy has an E91, I'd say the E84 is actually nicer on the inside than either. The only exception is the hatch, where the E91 is much better finished.
