So I have a 28i xdrive and just bought the aFe stage 2 intake and air filter for the N20 engine. I installed it last night and it literally took 15-20 minutes. I haven't driven it yet, but by the sound at start up it seems like it'll have a bit of a deeper exhaust note. I don't expect to feel much of a difference as it only adds a few hp and tq, but it definitely looks great! Here are some before and after pictures!

I just purchased one. I should get it in a couple weeks. Hope to get a little more sound for the commute.

Yea, I love the sound of the turbos spooling up! It sounds a lot better than I thought it would

You'll definitely get the sound. I love the deeper sound of the exhaust and the turbos spooling up, especially when you floor it

Thanks so much for the videos. Sounds awesome.

Would you by any chance happen to have any driving videos from outside the car? Dying to know how this sounds under heavy throttle from the outside coming at you.

Also, which style of filter would require less maintenance? I've read that one has to be oiled or cleaned more routinely.

Oiled filters work better than dry filters no questions asked. Oil filter do require to be cleaned and re-oiled. That process can be tricky believe it or not. Over oiling the filter can ruin it's ability to be efficient, lower your power etc.. Oiled filter also pose a problem with sensors in the intake tract as little amounts of oil will end up on them.

I'd say oiled filters are a great choice if you don't mind spending lots of time under the hood cleaning sensors and the filter itself. If you're like me and don't want to clean shit all the time, dry filters make more sense.

Local conditions also play a factor in filter choice. Here in dusty Alberta, I'd hate to use an oiled filter because I'd have to clean it quite often, but somewhere on the coast or what not with less dust, may be better to have the oil.

Either way, both dry and oiled filters need to be cleaned, but there's a lot of factors that contribute to how often they'll need to be cleaned.

Thanks for the explanation. That's exactly what I needed to read. Ordering an oiled one up right away.

Installed mine today. I can't say those videos depict the sound very well. I will try to get some sound clips tomorrow.

I just installed mine, wow I love it. I can feel the difference, love the sound.

Now it's time for a downpipe and exhaust. This is a bad ass little 4 cyl. I'm guessing with the tune, intake, exhaust it should run around 340 hp.

Doubt it. With JB4, downpipes, full exhaust, an intake and an intercooler, cars barely make 315. 340 crank sounds more reasonable, but wheel won't happen without upgrading the turbo etc

Let's hear it in motion! Someone please post a driving sound clip! Please?!

Preferably with the 8 speed. Curious to hear that spool with the shifts so close together.

I've tried recording some clips, but the wind noise just takes over. Where should I place the mic? I have....a phone.

+1
And Oil filters don't make a big difference on Turbo engines.

Resurrecting an old thread: what was your long term thoughts on this intake? Any noticeable affect on gas mileage?
