Who has his headlights wrapped?

Hi folks,

Anyone here has the headlight of the X1 wrapped?
In the past I have seen a picture of the effect and I think it was on this forum.

Got a black X1 and thinking of doing it but I don't want to waist the money so I need to be sure of it.

Pictures welcome.
To be clear, I mean the upside of the headlight (the white surface) with car body color wrapping (in my case black but other pictures welcome as well).

I would actually want that top eyelid painted black to match the other black accents on my trim. I think actual overlays don't look too good--would rather open the headlight and pain that part but I don't know if the clear cover comes out without much fuss like older headlights. Some other makes, that part is glued/sealed on and requires baking--don't want to get into that.

I rather go for wrapping. Not opening the headlight module and easy to remove.

Could combine it with wrapping the interior parts but still not decided to go for piano black or carbon look. And perhaps the front and rear lip wrapped in car body color.

I have also seen on this forum but the guy showed picture of his car while discussing a different subject and another asked how it was done. Sorry mate can't remember that particular subject.
It looked good and I liked the idea. If my car wasn't already white I would change to match another colour. Guess you wouldn't want to see any white car pictures, Ha. Ha.
Hopefully your inquiry will get some answers and pictures.

That looks really good! Nice and subtle too. How did you do that? Looks like you removed the clear plastic...

Thanks you all.
This really helps.
Not sure now it will be wrapping or plastic eye lids but now I'm sure I defiantly want it.

The car looks more aggressive/wider with it.
Didn't remember the AC Schnitzer has it.

Now I want a M-kit or painted bumpers two.

How'd I do what? Tint on the headlights?

Is that how you got it like that? Tint on the upper part of the headlights? Very cool. I think it looks great!

It's tint meant for headlights and tail lights. Not to bad except a bit harder to form. I also used it on my side mirrors to darken the signals

Also, Skylineguv had his done. His old car was LMB for those thinking that the dark tint would look a bit weird on a coloured car.

I'd never do a painted piece, unless I did it within the first 6 months of ownership. The paints won't match and will look off

I would really love to so this. Did you get the tint pre cut? How did you install it? Where? My window tint guy said its not the same type. Thanks.

I had mine done at the same place that did my windows. They cut the tint themselves, wasn't hard to cut, but the crease in the bucket makes it difficult to stick in the "valley". Took them two tries. They used exterior tint meant for tail lights, it's a bit thicker than window tint and I believe was made by 3M.

Does temporary taping an X over the lights to protect them from gravel spray count?

I am a little confused. I thought the x1 already came with the 'eyebrows'

Nope. It has horizontal LED light bar which you might be thinking about. There's an ugly silver triangle on the upper part of the light which he wants to have eliminated with tint or vinyl to give the illusion that the ugly silver triangle doesn't exist.

I tinted them with the taillight tint. Just top area. Looks good in my opinion.

Can't wait to get my X1, will be opening up the headlights and painting them right away. They are actually quite difficult to work with and do not bake open like E92 headlights. These take several hours just to open, gut the old seal and put in a new seal. I'll make a thread when it's done

Did your tint cover the horizontal led lights? Can you take a close up pic? The plastic eyebrows above look like they do cover the LEDs. Also taking a closer look at the X1 headlights, you would need to cover the LEDs if you want a smooth transition to the cover the Orange triangle too.

Mine does cover the horizontal LED, since it's tint, the light still comes through. Looks kinda cool at night
