Xdrive35i mods

Hi,

I am planning to buy the a couple of mods for my BMW X1 Xdrive35i. Could you guys let me know if I am buying the right stuff?

1). JB4-Type B harness + USB cable
2). ER chargepipe
3). Catless downpipe (n54 tuning?)
4). ER Intercooler
5). Pure Stage 2 Turbo
6). N55 PURE High Flow Inlet Pipe
7). N55 Diverter Upgrade DV(Plus)

I will probably do item 1-3 first then 4-7 later on when budget allows.

Anything I should change on my to buy list? My target is to have around 450 whp on pump gas (94 octane) running Map 2 with everything done. Is that realistic?

Thanks,

I'd so some suspension work too while I was at it. But as far as power mods go, that's a nice little list...

My list is like this...
Dinan stage 2 -done
BMS intake- done
Black Grills -done
Jb4 in place of dinan -(possibly already have it)
VRSF CP -(on the way)
Suspension setup of some kind-cant decide on setup
19x9/10 concave setup-haven't decided on brand yet

That's it. I don't need 450 awhp, just a fun car that looks good. I don't have a track near me so it's pointless to go stupid with it.

Out of curiosity, will the transfer case handle that much power? As far as I understand it's a weak point in the car....

Things I'd change...
Perform the Iso mod on the Jb4, enable the newest firmware with timing ability.
Get Rev 3 Bluetooth kit for Jb4 and the app, you'll use this set up all the time and never use a laptop for logs etc.
You'll need the Pure install kit.
You'll benefit from new tmap sensor, changes the jb4 maps for the Pure stg 2 and holds higher boost than regular Jb4 maps for n55.
Look into Alpina Trans flash
I'd install Oil catch can before cranking the boost and new colder spark plugs with .022 gap

I have plenty of other thoughts and have been through a bunch of trial and error getting my car to run predictably with the Pure stage 2. It's a beast for sure, but can be finicky...lots of variables come into play with increased boost

Oh! I forgot Alpina flash. I should hopefully be doing that tomorrow.

Be careful with the rear tire. The rear passenger side was fixed and has a plug in it. That's the one I see right away anyway...

If you bought your car from Downtown Mercedes (which I believe you do) then be careful, the rear tire (at least that one) was fixed. Just so you don't have an unpleasant surprise.
I was looking for a second X1 to buy as a DD for me but couldn't find a low mileage one or new.
I looked to buy that one too but the air intake turned me down. I am not saying that is something wrong, but I am personally not comfortable in buying a tuned car.

My goal is to have Pure Stage 2 and JB4 running Map 2 only. This will be my daily driver thus i don't think i will crank up the boost past Map 2. Could you please elaborate on how I can do the ISO mod and get the newest firmware with timing ability on the JB4? I am planning to buy from N54tuning. Is this the right one to buy?

That I didn't notice, a plug is no big deal though. As far as it being modded, I'm comfortable with it, it's done right. I have modded every vehicle I've ever owned since 1998 and this one will be no exception. I see it as saving me money down the line lol

You're in Calgary then, have you modded your own?

The link is correct for Jb4 and you need type B harness.
If your only going to run pump and 14psi, I wouldn't even consider the Pure stage 2 and all the work and cost that go into the install. Just go catless and get the jb4 working right and start to experiment with higher boost levels on the stock turbo.
Do your Jb4 research over on n54tech website and read up on the Iso changes that need to be made to the Jb4 board and firmware.

No mods in mine, I keep it as is. Enjoy your new ride!

Where can i get the Rev 3 Bluetooth kit for JB4? is it a seperate item or a specific version of JB4?

http://www.n54tuning.com/e-series-n55-jb4.html

is it on the n54tuning webpage?

It is a different item and you need to use the Jb4 mobile app, Android($28) or Apple.
Here it is with free shipping and drop ships direct from BMS, saves the $14 shipping found at all other retailers..
http://www.**********s.com/BMS-JB4-Bluetooth-Kit.htm

The bluetooth does not connect with the Jb4 software that you may have loaded on a laptop(still need usb cable), but the mobile does everything and more than the laptop software. Logging, firmware updates, graphs, setting changes etc.

So you can enjoy 450-500 hp (what most people would call overkill, if you're not heading to the track) on the street, yet can't enjoy better handling?

OK...good luck.

I agree with Apex there. You need to address the shortcomings of the X1 chassis. It is excellent, but it can be transformed into a really great handling rig for not a lot of dough.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to push all that power without sharpening up the handling.

I would personally do the FMIC before the downpipe

Also, I would switch to wider tires (maybe a 255 wide square setup) as part of the initial mods

Personally, I think there starts to be a reliability question mark if you go past full bolt on and plan to really drive the car hard, so it seems worth it to consider overall goals and the platform overall before going off the deep end into turbo swaps, suspension mods etc.

As an example, I can't help but notice that C5 z06 are getting pretty cheap these days... Why not keep the X1 relatively stock and just add on a Z06 to the stable.....

hey guys, i am about to be ready to buy all these mods:

1). JB4-Type B harness + USB cable
2). ER chargepipe
3). Catless downpipe (n54 tuning)
4). ER competition FMIC
5). Pure Stage 2 Turbo
6). N55 PURE High Flow Inlet Pipe
7). N55 Diverter Upgrade DV(Plus)

Does it make sense to have a shop install these all at once or FBO first then the turbo? What's the estimate on the number of hours needed to install everything?

thanks!

Do 1 and 2 first, work our how to setup the jb4 and test for a while.... then 3-7 can be done at the same time.
Turbo swap is usually quoted at 8hrs.
You need the turbo install kit with the flange nuts and o-rings etc and bmw coolant, distilled water etc for turbo swap.
What's the goal with the build? High horsepower or tracks duty or what...
You'll need to keep an eye on misfires and fuel pump issues or enough octane for the boost levels

Hey mwtrogus, I am planning to keep max boost relatively low at 15PSI running 94 pump gas. I am hoping to get around 430-450whp. This is my daily driver thus reliability is a must. I will be ordering the install kit as well when i buy the PS2 turbo.

Get the n20 tmap sensor and upgrade the jb4 to use the new maps. Stick with map 1, 16psi for daily driving. Pulls hard to redline on 93 pump no problem. The other jb4 maps drop boost in upper rpm range
