Suggestions on replacement tires for X1 MSport
Planning to order a 28i X1 xdrive with MSport this week.
Understand that the standard mixed wheel combo comes with summer tires (225/45/18 front and 255/40/18 rear). The upgrade to 19's does not interest me as they have performance tires. Curious to hear comment on how these summer tires perform in wet/cold weather. Would plan a change to all seasons and welcome any suggestions on tire manuacturer selection. Have had good experience with Kumho all seasons replacing stock Good Year performance tires on our Mini Cooper S. Better ride comfort, noise level and durability, and was not requiring a performance tire for routine daily driving. |

I am awaiting delivery of my M Sport myself, so I can't comment on the OE summer runflats yet. But since the M Sport comes with a staggered fitment, I began researching replacement tires before I committed to ordering the package. (That research is the main reason I avoided the 19" upgrade. The tire choices are very limited.) Tire Rack is currently showing 10 matched sets of all seasons in a staggered fitment, none of which are runflats.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...=54150&tab=All Out of the 10 models listed, I would probably go with the Bridgestones or Contis. Of course, I would do additional research to see what other tire choices might be available that Tire Rack doesn't carry. |

We have the 18' M Sport and with these wheels you will get Goodyear Efficient Grip Run Flats. Go to Tire Rack or other web sites and read the reviews but from what I remember they were underwhelming (about 60% liked them). Biggest complaint was soft and not real great handling. We only have 300 miles on them and have not run our X1 hard so I really can't judge the handling but they feel fairly soft and ride quality is good. I'm sure they were designed more with gas mileage and ride quality in mind much more so than handling.

BTW, the words comfort and MSport dont appear often in the same sentence.. have you tested the X1 with sports suspension? We have driven both and the basic suspension is already very hard and frequently criticised. |

Have only been able to test drive the 28i sDrive with stock tires and suspension, and the suspension felt fine even on rough and rutted surfaces. My reference point for suspension harshness is our Mini Cooper S which had sport suspension and performance run-flats. Awesome driver, but jarring on rough surfaces.
