X1 and Snow

If I wait for the plows to come through, then any AWD will get me going. But, sometimes I don't have the luxury to wait and need to get out, possibly with 12" of snow on the ground.

For those fortunate this past winter to have their X1, is the ground clearance on the X1 sufficient to get you through the deep stuff?

Mmmm, good question. Sorry don't have an answer yet but will let you know towards the end of the year when we start getting a bit of the white stuff. One of the reasons I went for the X1 is so that I can take it north into the mountains this winter so have been looking at getting some winter tyres and chains for it as well. The X1 was only launched in Europe last winter so there were not many around. Maybe one of our Nordic members will have more experience.

Hi Steve,

As I mentioned before in other threads, I bought the car in November. But unfortunately there was almost no snow in town this year, no chance of skiing trips I only had the chance to drive on snow for 3-4 days. I can't comment how the car will perform on 12'' snow but here is a video of mine in an empty parking lot doing useless things

I wouldn't say you were doing useless things...looked liked fun!

Interesting that you were able to get the rear end to slide out with xDrive. Did you deactivate DSC?

My wife is sold on her xDrive E90, but then again, she's the one that will wait for the plows to come through.

I guess what I'm really interested in is how much ground clearance does the X1 have?

Yes, that was definitely fun, useless was for quarter tank of fuel for 30 minutes fun That was only DTC off, you can do pretty much everything but you cannot increase speed since DSC kicks in. I also deactivated DSC and it was the real fun. I even figured out how to turn the car on its center like in the X6 M promo video
