us version prices paid?

Hi, I am very seriously thinking about ordering this car. I live in the New York area and I've already visited one dealer who has told me that they would only allow pre-orders at MSRP. If I could I would wait 6 months by which time I would think there will be deals available, but i'm pretty sure that the value of my trade-in(09 328xi) will decline enough to essentially offset any savings.

Anyway, has anybody here in the US placed an order, and were you able to get a price somewhere between invoice and MSRP?

I ordered two weeks ago and although I did not get a discount off MSRP I negotiated a fixed price on my trade at above market price. Mine will not be built until the last week of July so I will probably receive it the second week in August. Auto Trader said the wholesale value on my trade was worth $17,800 and the dealer offered me $19,000 and agreed to hold that price until delivery unless something was seriously wrong with my car at trade time. I would try and work the same deal, honestly I was more concerned with not getting screwed on the trade than what they took off retail because I ordered their first allotment and probably wasn't going to get over $1,000 off retail anyway.

Has anyone placed an ED order on the X1? Have they been able to do ED Invoice +500-1000? I'm looking to do it soon too. Since this does not affect dealer allocation, it's basically free money to them regardless of it being a new model.

If yours isn't getting built until the end of July, then you won't get it until late September at the earliest. It takes anywhere from 8-10 weeks for delivery, unless BMW has drastically improved their production cycle in the last 12-24 months.

New guy here! Just ordered my X1 on Saturday. Very first one ordered from the dealer in Baltimore MD. X1 X-drive 328i Sport-Line pkg. w/Nevada Coral Red Leather with aluminum trim. Really cool look! Added sport wheel, servotronic, satellite, cold weather pkg. chrome pkg., satin roof rails. I received a voucher from BMW Usa for $1,000 towards the SAV. Also negotiated with the dealer for a $1000 discount off MSRP from them. So, $2,000 off MSRP. I feel it's a good price. Especially since it's there first allocation/order for an X1 and being it's a brand new model just introduced in our market. I'm very pleased with the pricing. Look forward to getting behind the wheel.

Why would it take 8-10 weeks from production date? I ordered a Mini built in England and two weeks after it was produced it arrived in South Carolina so late July production should be mid Aug. I have ordered at least 4 BMW's in the past and it took a total of 8 weeks from when I placed the order and that was because you have to get a production date which takes 4-6 weeks. either way it makes my trade better because I get the same price even if I drive it another couple weeks.

I'm also considering purchasing an X1 via the ED program. It is my understanding that ED vehicles come out of the dealer's normal allocation for each model and is thus not "free money" for them. That's what my dealer told me and it was confirmed by BMWNA/European Delivery when I wrote them an email. If you get confirmation this is not the case please let me know where you got the information, as ED vehicles NOT coming out of the dealer's allocation could help me negotiate a better price.

I'm pretty sure that is not the case.
Go to bimmerfest and look around the ED forum. Multiple people and sponsor dealers that specialize in ED have said it does not come out of their allocation. It's been a standard on that forum for everyone to negotiate 500-1K above ED invoice. Keep in mind, most dealers prob wont want to do this at this price. I'm in Dallas and I might have to go out of state to get this type of a deal.

I'm just curious, what is your dealer quoting you?

Lucky13, how do you know when your car will go into production? I ordered mine on 6/26 and was only given a production number and told it would be 8-10 weeks.

My dealer had a slot open for the last week in July, it was their first production slot. They have known for 6 months I wanted one and they gave me their first slot.

I was told by the dealer that I bought my ED 335i from that although most ED cars don't come out of their allocation, certain models such as the M6 convertible and the X1 do come out of their allocation.

I'm in San Juan, Puerto Rico, so it is more difficult to me to "go out of state" to get a better price. Not impossible, but more difficult. My dealer initially told me the X1 would not be available for ED. I had to write to BMWNA to inquire. They confirmed it would be available for Munich pickup starting 9/24. When I shared this with my dealer they acknowledged the X1 would be available for ED, but they told me the still had not received their X1 allocation. I'm waiting for them to call me back when they get it. I inquired BMWNA whether ED sales came out of the dealer's regular allocation or whether they were on top of their normal allocation. They replied "the dealer would need to provide us from the dealer's reagular allocation". Based on what you tell me, I suspect there are some dealers that specialize on ED and they can get ED sales on top of their normal allocation. For perspective, last December I tried to buy a 328i for March ED and my dealer wanted $600 over ED MSRP + taxes. My threshold was full ED MSRP + taxes, so I did not buy. Let's see what happens with the X1. Obviously my dealer is not interested in selling on ED because they can get more profit on locally delivered cars.

Did you do the Olympics test drive to get the voucher before you placed the order or after? My dealer only told me about it while I was placing my order for the X1. He even told me to register online as soon as I get home to get the voucher. But if I remember correctly, BMW won't let you use the voucher if you have already placed the order even though you have NOT taken delivery yet.

Cool

Read the fine print! It's good through oct. 31 2012 on ANY new vehicle ordered or not.

FYI. My x1 was scheduled to start production on the 1st of august. However, it has already begun production as of a few days ago according to the website. Ahead of schedule, very cool!

Sport-Line, what web site? Mine was due to go into production late July. Is it in BMW owners circle or another area of the BMW site?

Mine, too, went into production this past Tuesday, July 10th.

Sport-Line: I did read the fine print pasted below, and it stated that pre-orders before the test-drive are NOT eligible. I was asking you if you had placed an order before the test drive or after, and whether you were able to apply your voucher.

"Fine print:

*BMW Drive for Team USA Allowance is available on all new 2012 and 2013 BMW models and can only be redeemed by individuals who participate in a scheduled BMW Drive for Team USA event and is non-transferable. The offer is valid from April 17, 2012 through October 31, 2012 on the lease or purchase of all eligible models except 2012 3 Series xDrive Sedans. The allowance on 2012 3 Series xDrive Sedans is valid until January 2, 2013. Offer may be redeemed at an authorized BMW Center for Stateside (U.S.) delivery only and cannot be used for European delivery. Offer not valid for vehicles delivered prior to event attendance or customer orders placed prior to event attendance. This offer may only be combined with certain eligible offers available at the time of delivery. Offer cannot be used for tax, title, registration, destination or other dealership fees. Some restrictions apply; see an authorized BMW center for details."

Lucky13. If you register for an online account with BMW on the BMW's US website, on the left hand column you'll see a link to "add your vehicle." You'll then need to input either your production number or the VIN number of your build, both of which can be obtained from your dealer, in order to track the progress of your X1. Good luck!
