driver's side footwell's top left unfinished?

Just wondering if this is factory left out thing or someone just got lazy on my factory ordered X1 2014 make they are loose and hanging and not covered up properly as you can see bare metal popping out.

Why? Do you spend a lot of time upside down in the footwell? It's an X1, not an Alpina 7er.

Most companies leave these things open. They make one mold for a piece which will cover any options. Molds are expensive to make let alone run in a plastics process.

seriously??

@Twix thanks for the info.. my main concern rather is how the whole compartment down there seems flimsy. it's not intact and hanging loose. so just wanted to confirm if this is the same for all x1s out there

Yes, seriously. It's not a Jag, Roller or Bentley, it's a $30k car that comes with a manual in some markets. It's much nicer down there than say an STI or even a GTI. Hell, it's comically better done than my old M Coupe.

Wish the third pedal was an option here...my manual X5 was a lot of fun.

Maybe in a year or two it can be retro'd

There you go, I don't think @Gangsta D is showing his Jag or RR or Alpina 7er footwell. BTW, I paid AUD 60K for this car that's around US 47K at today's low exchange rate. Year ago when I bought this car AUD and USD currencies were almost the same. I know Aussies have to pay extra lot for everything but this is not my concern here at all. I had a simple question - how does my footwell compare to you guys?, a simple opinion - they should have done a better job on the footwell (given the condition on mine). If this upset you in anyway then I'm sorry man.. So, your footwell is finished same way as mine and this is done better than the old M Coupe you have? Also, are you RHD or LHD?

Gangsta D thanks for the pic. Now that's a good finish and so it is out there. So, is that manual you got there or auto?

spydrz So you have the similar finish as Gangsta D? Are you saying that LHD would have similar finish as Gangsta D?

Any one with RHD here? I would appreciate if you can tell how mine compares to yours. Thanks

Ha, no worries. We all get bothered by seemingly trivial or random stuff. I hate the amount of orange peel in BMW paint. Most people don't care at all. I'm not bothered by what the underside of the dash looks like, nor the back side of the wheels or the bottom of the seat cushions. But who cares? You are, that's cool.

Just as an aside, I mentioned three ostensibly British cars, or at least natively RHD, I bet they really would have cleaner footwells for you.

It is normal. Most BMWS are like that. And for the record, most cars have MUCH less (sometimes no) covering down there, leaving wiring harnesses and other things in plain sight.
