I'll be taking detailed photos of the whole process and posting more here - I'm hoping this will ease others into doing this upgrade as its a very nice to have feature, especially for those of us with more petite significant others

If you guys have any questions or want me to check something specific out in the kit please ask now before its all installed.

Defective and Terrible Service

Alright, do NOT buy from the original seller and do NOT use engtaobao.com

The item ended up being defective - when I was installing the actuator the spring inside broke free, nearly damaging my car and leaving a pretty big bruise on my leg.

I've since been working with the agent to resolve the issue to no avail. It seems that there is no post-sales support what-so-ever - once you hand over your money that's it. I did buy it on my credit card so I'm going to try and deal with MasterCard and see where I get from there.

For the record I had the installation booklet translated and followed it to the letter, and a mechanic friend of mine came by to help with the install. I'm attaching the photo of the broken actuator.

Bummer, any chance that it can be fixed???

If not, I have found that the CC companies are pretty good about such issues, especially AmEx.

No such luck I'm afraid. I'm really hoping MasterCard will come through on this one, I'll be calling them on Monday.

Will keep you guys posted as it's still an issue for my wife and I'm going to have to figure something out regardless. Probably going to go with a different seller and different broker as I haven't seen this anywhere except taobao.

FWIW I just got a blurb on the "All new X1" and one of the new groundbreaking innovations is:

Hands-Free Power Tailgate

Hmmm … I wonder how much the retro fit is going to be???

Yeah I heard about that a while back and had the same question. It's what's keeping me from ordering a second kit from a different seller at this point.

I guess we'll have to wait until there's more information about the '16

Sorry guys, but having a power tailgate isn't enough of an enticement for me to mess with the tailgate. The manual tailgate works just fine.

Anybody looked into this power liftgate solution, Electric Tailgate Lift Assist System TL105? It looks to be about $400 US.

I actually would be curious to check it out. Since i got the money back for my defective one I've been itching to try it out again just didn't want to risk $700 for it.

It looks to be the same as what I got before but a little better construction. If anyone decides to try it let me know. Plus it's PayPal so a little less risk given their purchases protection policy

Glad to hear you got your money back from your earlier attempt. You should go first for this attempt as well. I've been reading up and doing coding on our cars and, uh, don't have the time to start another project at the moment.

Vancouver isn't too far from Seattle so I'll even come up and help you out. Not just because I'm a good guy, but so I screw up less when I pull the trigger after your success!

Hmmm, says it's on sale for $399 plus shipping. I didn't go through the checkout process but are you saying shipping is another $300?

No, this wasn't available when I got mine. I went through AliExpress and got what seemed the best option without paying a ridiculous amount.

$50 and no timeframe. I think I read they only ship on the 10th and 25th so it might be a while. The shipping did include tracking, so at least I'll know when it's on its way.
