X1 xdrive35i Extended Warranty
Is it worth it. Car is a 2013 with 21,000 miles. They want to charge me 5,000+ for an extra 3 years of extended warranty. Anyone else have this warranty?

Take a look at this thread. The F30 has same power train, same transmission (compared to 2.8) and people were buying GOLD extended through BMW for much lower than the quote you got. Don't be a sucker, call around. http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...ended+warranty

Best way to negotiate is try to get a dealer to disclose Dealers cost to you. It may take a few calls until you get someone who will disclose it to you. From that point you negotiate cost +.

BMW doesn't even do the extended warranty in-house anymore. I called them 2 weeks ago to extend mine and when they transferred me, I learnt that I was already talking to someone from NVPS, National Vehicle Protection Services. I thought I was transferred to a wrong number so I called another dealership. Then I ended up talking to the same office.
They quoted me 4yrs up to 75k, I'm currently at 30k, for ~$4400. I took it and put a $200 down and rest is payable in 18 months. Then I tried negotiating from my dealer, a non BMW dealer where I got my car. Same coverage for Platinum but only 3yrs up to 100k, for $1900. Same as NVPS, it is accepted by all BMW service center. I cancelled the one from NVPS, and got the full deposit refund.

Some dealer offers $200 discount for 7yr/100k (3 extra year or 100k, if you dont think we will burn rubber up to 100k, stick with 7yr/72k) I live in SC, got quotes from NC, NJ, VA, MA, TX and FL (BMW dealers). Texas dealers are the ones marking up the price the most (which came 4-5k). I used the quote from NJ to price match a dealer 100 miles from me. The one like 10'miles from me is reluctant to sale factory warranty, because it's a Hendrick and they want to sell you Autoguard. All you need is your dated photo of you odometer, dated photo of yor registration, your driver license, and your credit card. Then, called BMW USA 3day later confirm your warranty status. Go to your local dealer for normal service, your key is automatic update when they download it from the internet-based service database from BMW. Let me know if you need some dealer names to get quotes from. |

Yeah I thought it'll be cheaper. I think I'm just going to keep up with the maintenance frequent oil changes, etc. It had an oil change at 10,000 miles and now as soon as I get it I am going to get everything done under warranty before I go on my own. I looked at the maintenance history of the car and it hasnt had one problem since it was bought brand new. The car wont be driven that much since my wife works 3 miles from home and I usually use my company car to get around. I also have a 1989 325I that I use on the weekends haha.
Thanks for the input guys

If you only drive 10 miles max daily, I don't think you would need to buy EVP. Just come in and complain about the brakes, they will give you a new sets of pads, and new rotors (covered under 2013 warranty plan).
