BMW Assist not supported 1/2017?

Hey all,

I got a message in the iDrive about BMW Assist in '15 X135 not being supported past 1/2017, and to go to https://www.bmwassistoffer.com

I entered in my VIN and was presented with 3 choices. $300 in apparel and no more BMW assist, $200 visa gift card and no more BMW assist, or "retrofit with compatible technology"

I chose the retrofit option and will apparently get more info at a later time.

The SOS feature is a huge selling point for me, as is the Google Local Search, and the BMW Apps features, so I definitely want the retrofit.

Anyone else in this position?

I am as well. I went to the website and entered my vin and was told they would be in touch. I've not been offered the three choices yet, but I will also take the retrofit. I'm kinda hoping that data speeds will increase with the new hardware, but somehow that feels like too much to expect.

Wow. I didn't know my 2015 was affected. I didn't get an idrive message but when i plug in my vin, i get the three choices. I opted for the retrofit.

I also went for the retrofit because its my wife's car and it's an extra level of security. But, having said that, has anyone actually used the service?

Since I bought used, is there any way to find out my end contract date?

All E84s are affected. They all have the 2G hardware. If you're lucky enough and your contract will end after 12/31/2016, you're offered a free hardware retrofit, merchandise credit, or cash. If your contract ends on or before the end of 2016, you might have the option to renew your contract and get the retrofit.

I only ask since I may have lifetime subscription, then I would get the retrofit vs cash.

So, were you all offered the choices when you entered your vin? And did you get an e-mail response from BMW? I have had neither. I tried to enter my vin again today and was told that I had already made my selection. I'm guessing something has gone wrong.

I was offered the said choices, picked 'retrofit', and still waiting for the email.

I have a 2015. When I plugged in my VIN, it said my BMW Assist contract goes until 2024!!! Not sure if that's right. In any case, plug your VIN (last 7 digits) into the link posted previously.

I figure from a resale standpoint, it is a good selling point to have the BMW Assist feature intact. I in fact have used it to call them about a question and they are pretty responsive.

I got an option to retrofit but with an annual cost of $199.

We already had AAA before I bought the X1 and I've never used any of the functions, so I think I'm gonna take the cash.

Thanks for posting this Nicknaz. I had my car at the dealer last Friday to have an inspection prior to my 4/50 warranty expiring. The report said that everything was ok. Either this retrofit did not show up on their computer or they neglected to tell me about it. I never received a letter or email from BMW NA even though they have me correct contact information. I called BMW Assist and they advised me to contact the dealer which I will do tomorrow. Planned obsolescence is wonderful isn't it, NOT.

you're welcome! I didn't get a letter or email either, just the text message in my idrive screen to go to the site. It looked the same as what kiloTHREE posted

I use BMW assist features all the time (app to lock, unlock, send navi destinations to car, set climate fan start time, Google Local Search to find stuff for navi), not to mention the features I hope never to use... like the automatic phone call to EMS in case of crash and finding the car in case of theft

I'm very surprised if anyone would pick the $200 and $300 option to deactivate. The insurance discount from having the BMW Assist theft recovery system alone is more valuable than the gift cards...

I get an insurance discount because of the BMW LoJack feature. They call it theft recovery. Not a great dollar amount but every little bit helps.

I got a notification by email for my possible choices, I chose the retrofit. 48 hours later received my confirmation number in an email. Have to print it and take it with me to the dealer. It just so happens that I also was due for maintenance so I spoke with my adviser and they will schedule my retrofit at the same time and also replace my pending airbag recall. One stop shopping to occur this Friday.

talked to my dealer. they are ordering the updated combox and airbag. I am told I am the first rig here at my dealer getting the combox upgrade.

question: current cell provider is ATT (on their 2G network). Any ideas who the cell provider is for the 3G (or LTE?) upgrade?

question: dealer says I can only renew for 1 year following the upgrade. what happens after that year? perhaps this is just a poorly worded SIB at the dealer? I can't see why they would prevent renewals following the 1st year of paid service.

My BMWAssist contract expires Dec 2023, but the ConnectedDrive contract (all the entertainment apps including BMW Remote) expires 12/04/2016. Am I the only one with such disparity?

I've done a little looking with no luck. Does anyone know if you can find your ConnectedDrive expiration date online?

This boggles my mind. When I accessed the BMW Connected App, it told me it could not find an enrolled vehicle. It further stated that I had to have a MY14 or newer vehicle for the app to work. I guess my MY13 just doesn't qualify. I can't believe that they couldn't make their system backward compatible with other model years. Oh well, I may see a MB in my future.
