Audi TT Virtual Cockpit

This is pretty impressive, wish BMW would get their gauges to this level.

I'd take a mechanical LSD over that.

I would take an advanced HUD over it. However it's pretty clear BMW is moving towards LCD instrument clusters as well

Yeah I'm a BMW owner who recently bought a new A4 with this. Absolutely love the dashboard. It makes my 335 feel ancient.

Drove a new Q7 with virtual cockpit. Simply amazing. Calling it a game changer is an understatement.

Yeah when I drove a TTS a while back I loved it. That car especially the rest of the cockpit is so clean it's great. Think it's the best interior south of spending crazy money on a S63 or something.

I agree... everything else feels old in comparison. Its an expensive option except on top trims though... If they were smart they would make it standard across the product line as a signature feature.

And guys, another thing is, the way the interior feels now is just incredible. I was always bitching about the old Audi cockpit for using cheap plastic, buttons feeling hollow and making the wrong sound. Nothing like this is to be found in their new cockpit. It feels super expensive. I don't know but BMW really has something up in their pipeline, because from the pictures of the new 5 series interior don't seem that revolutionary.

Yeah, we all watched your A4 review!

AudiUSA--just bring over the RS6 Avant, with or without virtual cockpit (I don't care), and I would be a pig in...

Humm wonder why they took it down. It was on AutoBlog.

This is a more in-depth review of it if you want to see what we're talking about.

Being "pretty" is one thing (and the virtual cockpit IS really pretty), but the fact that I have to look down for any information instead of having my line of sight towards the road (through peripheral vision) is really concerning. All information should be in the line of sight of the driver, which means at the same height/level of looking at the road.

I'd much rather have an advanced HUD than a glitzy speedometer.

^^i agree. It looks pretty but not for me . I normally have my steering wheel set at the lowest position so right away itd block half the screen anyways. It should be up in the middle so I don't have to look down ...

I will go against the grain here, and say I prefer the standard gauges.

I have not driven the Audi virtual cockpit, but I have driven the Lamborghini Hurcan which is pretty similar. Also, my car has a LCD cluster and my wife's X5 has digital gauges. While it is cool that my cluster turns red when I put into sport, I just prefer the traditional gauges with the HUD.

I will say that Lambo/Audi implementation is much better than BMW's, and it is only a matter of time before all cars go digital cluster.

So for those who buy the car used, have no warranty, will have to dish out 10k on a new cluster lol

I've had a couple of cars with different implementations of stuff. Honestly the implementation in my Huracan may be my least favorite. I like having a separate screen like in my X5M along with a HUD. However, I do like digital gauges. The digital gauges in my Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT were nice, and I would have liked having that in the X5M instead of the analog. I also liked the setup in my 911 GT3 which had one digital gauge and the rest analog.

I really don't like the Huracan/Audi setup with everything right in front of your face. It's kind of a mess.

New Q7 has separate screen, vitural cockpit, and hud. Electronics in that car are top shelf.

For some reason I always end up turning hud off, it starts to bother me always being in my line of sight.

i had a new r8+ for extended drive couple weeks back and i didn't like it at all

i might be getting old, but i still prefer analogue gauges in a sports car, it adds to the drama and theatre of the drive

in an a3 that i'd use to go buy milk and cookies, yeh it wouldn't matter so much

audi australia didn't pay their google subscription fees, so having a 4 colour nav map in front of you isn't all that cutting edge virtual

and one big issue i found while reversing.......

Yes, I agree, Domino.

....

You're getting old. LOL

Full disclosure though, I've never driven an Audi with the new display, and it may indeed feel a little unexciting in its execution. Thanks for the feedback.

Audi's new interiors are amazing. I really like the modern minimalist look. Even their base model interiors look as premium as the S and RS cars. Case in point the new Q5 interior below.
