Glovebox USB, X1 with Navigation

Has anyone used the USB inside the "glovebox compartment"?....apparently in theory...is used to: UPLOAD and DOWNLOAD music into your 12GB space you have to add media in your hardrive....

I'm waiting on mine...I should have my X1 by the beggining of august.....

I just wonder if you can use it for those things or multiple things....like "leaving a flashdrive connected with 32gb of memory with alot of music...

No, but you can use the front USB port for that. You can get some pretty tiny USB sticks these days - I have a 30 GB one there for exactly that purpose.

I have used it and it works well. The glove box usb port is also where you update the idrive system from.

I also read that if you insert a CD and save it into your hard drive ....you can export it through there with a stick...

Also "Grovsnus"...have you tried a portable hard drive or a higher stick....like a 64gb??

I use a 64gb in my X1 (instead of the internal hard drive) and my 128i without any problem..... works great.

How do you format it? Normally, Windows will only allow FAT32 up to 32 GB, and I don't think the iDrive can read an NTFS or ExFAT drive. FAT32 with bigger sector size using a 3rd party program?

I don't think the port can deliver enough juice to run a portable hard drive. It might depend on the drive, but it doesn't have enough juice to more than trickle-charge my phone, so I haven't tried a HD.
I have used a 64 GB stick with two partitions on it - it saw the first partition just fine.

But you can fit a decent amount of 320 kbps MP3s on a 32 GB thumbdrive. It's enough to go on a week's vacation and never play the same song twice.
If it could do FLAC, yeah, I'd want to use a much bigger drive. Perhaps the next upgrade to iDrive will have a FLAC codec?
