Are all X1's pre-wired for auto-dim mirror? Opinions?
Hi Ya'll.
I recently posted to the forum on my auto-dim mirror retrofit story on what happened. Long story short, My X1 was already pre-wired for the auto-dim mirror. I only have the midnight blue color as well as a sunroof. No other options. At least in the US the 2015 X1 can only have the auto-dim mirror if it has the premium or ultimate package. Mine has neither. I am starting to think that perhaps ALL X1's might be pre-wired for the auto-dim rear view mirror. The other theory that I have in mind is perhaps when my X1 was on assembly, someone might have put the wrong wires in my car, and gave me the wires necessary for the auto-dim mirror? Perhaps the sunroof comes with those wires? I am not sure and just wanted people's opinions. If perhaps ALL X1's by chance come pre-wired for the auto-dim mirrors. Then any X1 owner who wants to retrofit the mirror to their car, they can easily plug it in and play. All opinions are welcomed! Thank you! |

Since our X1 have small rear windshields with some minor blindspots, I prefer using Clip on mirrors that are dimmed. Broadway is a pretty reputable brand. Never been a fan of BMW dimming mirrors to be honest.

You will probably find that many options are pre-wired just lacking the end module. That is because wire is cheap compared having different harnesses. Especially, as the basic parts of the vehicle are built before the options are added. Let alone the body panels. So much of the vehicle can be built and configured accordingly.
For instance, many of us have working rear fog lights something std. in Europe but not in the USA. All one needs is the Euro light module or mod the US module. |

Does the clown nose blink? Then it has a wiring harness. The power could very well be used for that (this was how my E39 worked, clown nose only; autodimming compass mirror retro'd perfectly)

I've never noticed it blink, but not entirely sure when it is supposed to. None of my lights flash when I lock / unlock my car I need to get this sorted on a laptop.

I purchased my mirror originally for an E90 and I carefully "split" the cover behind the mirror. Then I unplugged the connector and plugged in the new mirror. It was simple and fast. There are some posts detailing this. The blinking clown nose works, it's smaller than the one that come in the standard mirror without compass, homelink etc. Go for it!

I find that the autodimming mirrors are not that effective on HID and LED headlamps. The last time I was in front of them, it was as if the mirror was useless. Don't know if anyone else had a similar experience.
