My trip included about 9 miles of non-highway. Pretty darned good for 2 tons that can also do 0-60 in about 6 seconds (Dinan Stage 1).

No i mean the language everyone else other than the US speaks. I looked it up, it's 9 litres per 100km, OK but not great given the small dimensions of the vehicle.

I find the X1 a curious animal TBH, we have 2008 9-3 wagon that is considerably larger and the 2T engine was first unveiled in 2002 so it's long in the tooth. It also has a 5 speed auto vs the X1's 8 speed.

Somehow, the X1 weighs the same as the 9-3, no idea why as again, it's considerably smaller, but fuel economy is very similar. The X1 is very slightly better but you'd think it would be considerably better given the age gap, development dollars and the 8 speed.

Your math is off, 33.1 U.S. MPG converts to 7.1 l/100km.

Further, a 9-3 was 600 pounds lighter than an X1, sits four inches lower to the ground and has a much better drag coefficient.

But in 1988, Honda offered a CRX HF that got 4.2 l/100km. Of course it weighed less than 900 kilograms. My point is that cars serve different purposes and technological advances aren't really comparable across platforms.

Also in no era can anyone call a 3800 pound / 1720kg car light.

My conversion tables put it at 7.1 liters for that 110kms.

I'm quite happy with the mix of economy and performance - and the size is just fine - I was very pleasantly surprised to find my mountain bike fits inside without removing wheels, handlebar, pedals...

I pumped it quickly into google and got 9, weird. In regards to weight, i get 1550KG for the X1 and 1530KG for the Saab from AUTO123.com .

If it really is 200KG heavier than the Saab then that is staggering given the proportions of both vehicles.

The xDrive and a rwd chassis just weigh more than a smaller fwd car. Even with Haldex, the Saab will be a lot lighter. The X1 is a good bit heavier than the E91, which would be more comparable to the 9-3. It's a heavy thing, no doubt. But fat lot of good any of that did Saab.

It was a rainy morning here and I was feeling pretty mellow, so I babied it the whole way - nothing like the way I usually drive! ;-)

I think I'll alternate days - baby it Monday, Wednesday, Friday...torch it Tuesday and Thursday...

188 mile highway trip in the rain from Cincy to Detroit area today. Cruising about 75mph got 28mpg. Pretty damn good for 400+whp, this car continues to impress me.

I owned mine a year now, and have yet to even leave my metro area. I use it as a DD/ light delivery vehicle, and average 20.5 mpg. (real measurement, not off the DIC) The mileage does kind of suck, but the acceleration makes up for it, and here in non-metric land, fuel is pretty cheap right now.

Keep in mind that UK mpg != US mpg, for two reasons. The most obvious is that the imperial gallon is 20% larger than the US gallon, which makes the 34 mpg (UK) instantly equivalent to 28 mpg (US).
But the fuel quality also differs - in most of the US, gasoline contains 10% ethanol, which has less energy and brings the octane number up and mileage down.

I get 25 MPG on the sDrive which kind of sucks but I cane it all the time. However, 75% of my commute is highway.

For about 12k miles, I averaged 25mpg. My commute is usually 35 to 45 minutes to go 17 miles. I have not taken any long trips.

After my Dinan tune, I drove half a tank at 20mpg. And just to see what happens when I am VERY cautious with the throttle and brakes, I got 32mpg during my stop and go commute for 2 days.

Gonna try some "normal" driving to see what I get.

I use ecopro 95% of the time, drive conservatively and only manage 23mpg.

Here, in the NW, it's up to %15 ethanol, and 92 octane. CA only gets 91.
