I run 235/45/18 and 265/40/18 now...

At one point I ran 245/45/18 square and had slight rubbing on the front being on h&r sports...

245/45 would have a lot more side wall than a 225/50.

I run 225/50/17 in the winter (taller and narrow is better in snow/ice)

and 225/45/18 rest of the time. Good set up.

Plus, two sets of wheels are easier to swap.

225 is 225 though, you're the same width for both seasons, though i suspect you know that. 225 is a nice width, anything more gets a bit silly.

yup, 225 is 225. i wish i could get narrower for the snow!

But to the op question, more rubber on the sides is better/easier on the kidneys in the pothole laden winter.
I choose to stick with the overall diameter by going down a size in wheel and getting the 50.

I am interested in getting rid of the RFT's at some point and going with something with a little taller sidewall.

Does anyone know how adding H&R springs will change the outcome in regards to tire/fender clearance?

Pretty sure much of that is going to come down to wheel offset.

Aren't there tracked X1s running 255 or 265 all around while lowered?
