Exclamation Safety Recall...

I got a letter from BMW Canada...
Vacuum Pump Oil Supply...that needs to replaced....
They don;t have the part yet, but they will call upon all once the part is in.
Year 2012-2014: 3 series, 3 series Touring, 5 Series, X1, X3, & Z4. (almost all models!!!)
My guess is that it also applies to the US models as they are built in the same location.

Got my letter yesterday as well Shaw, a little disappointing to say the least, but happy that BMW is stepping up to the plate. They just need to speed things up to get the fix up and going. Like you said, it's A LOT of car models in their line up, lets get this going already.

This was announced 8-10 weeks ago guys on many websites and newspapers. They said then that the letter wouldn't come out until November and they had to build parts.

Darn man, if I get that too, that will be my third recall, not to mention two done before I took delivery.
For a vehicle that was running in Europe for some time is quite embarassing...

I hate to go to the dealership...

I disagree. I think BMW has handled this poorly. It's been two months since the problem was announced, and I still haven't even received the letter. I experienced the power brake assist failure myself, and I assure you it is a safety issue despite BMW's assurances otherwise. I contacted my dealer after I had the the close call, and I was told they couldn't do anything until the recall is officially announced. The cars should have been parked until the fix could be implemented.

I stand corrected! I believe I bought my car late in September, and accordng to the original thread, they started the campaign around the same time. It seems my car shouldn't have been sold to me and my wife then according to what BMW told it's dealer network. Luckily, neither of us have expereinced the failure, but she drives the car 99% of the time and can be a little "anxious" driving in NYC traffic. I stand by some of my original statements, BMW needs to stop sending useless letters telling owners they are sending out another letter later on and get to the fix PRONTO.
Here's to no more failures to you or anyone else on the forum until BMW gets the fix out there.

I believe the issue is more critical during higher speeds... in congested areas, two-time brake is often not required...make sense?

Which location? I thought the X1, X3 and X5 were built in several locations - e.g. the X1 was built in Leipzig (Germany) and the X3 and X5 were built in the states?

Makes sense but NOT acceptable in a highway or a congested city area period.

Just checked with my dealership, doesn't apply to my X1 35i built in Leipzig. Just FYI. Thanks to the OP for the info on the recall.

You don't just hit a switch and 150,000 replacement parts pop out along with 150,000 loaner cars. I have never heard of a manufacturer parking all the recall vehicles of any brand. Do you recall the Ford Explorers and people were dying during that one.

Just because you haven't heard of it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Just last year Ford issued a park order for all Escapes with the 1.6L engine because of the fire risk. Owners were told not to even drive the cars to the dealership. Cars were picked up and loaners were provided.

http://www.autoblog.com/2012/11/30/f...er-engine-fir/

I have experienced the loss of power assist first-hand, and I can assure you there is a very real safety risk with this issue. At least with a fire risk you would have some warning.

I was just in the dealer on Wednesday and had them check for any outstanding campaigns (recalls) on my 35i and there was none listed.

Per the NHTSA notice this only applies to the following X1s: "model year 2013-2014 X1 sDrive28i and X1 xDrive28i vehicles"

Thanks, but the post was more an affirmation that currently the 35is are not showing ANY campaigns. At least as of the 27th of Nov.
