When is the final X1?

Anyone know when the very last X1 (E84) rolls off the production line?

Some of the German motoring press is talking of the next gen X1 being available in Sept. 2015, so you can probably go back 2-3 months from there for the retooling of the assembly lines.

So is the new 2016 x1 (new gen) going to be better or worse?

Should I buy now or later

You might as well ask what are next week's lottery numbers....

No one in the motoring public has driven one, and we know nothing about it except some possible prototypes running around in camouflage. So how is one supposed to make a judgment if the new one is going to be better or worse than the present model??

Best estimate: The new one will be better and/or worse compared to the old X1 E84 just like the new 3 series (F30) is better and/or worse than the old 3 series (E90).

I don't think those dates are right, every BMW has a 7 year life cycle. 2010 was the first model year so we still have 2016 model year and 2017 would be the new model. 2016 spring or summer is probably the introduction for the US.

I bought the 2015 because I doubted that the new X1 bowing in would have the inline 6 cylinder engine as an option, hydraulic steering, and rear wheel based AWD. I also liked that the E84 had a good enthusiast knowledge base (if you include E90, N20, N55) and parts availability of a mature vehicle, even though it was only introduced here in 2012.

From spy shots, I do think the new X1 coming in does look better and will probably make better use of space.

FWIW, I love my 2015 X1. The only car I would probably love more would be a Golf R Sportwagon (if it ever came here) with manual transmission.

When the new one comes out, the current one becomes the old one. Go figure.
So, will you buy a old car for the price of a new one? I'm talking about looks and maybe equipment.
Then again, it will still be a nice looking car but a little bit outdated.

When you wait and you don't like the new one I think a lot of stock and showrooms models will be still there and the 2nd hands market will get more X1's.

That is my opinion, success with your search.

Yes, but will any on the secondary market be the Superman Edition (Le Mans Blue / Coral Red)? Mostly, all I see are black, black, black, black, beige, black, black...interiors, which I do not want.

This is just an educated guess, but I think the new X1 is going to be somewhat smaller in total length, however interior space will probably be about the same. It will become FWD biased based on the Mini Countryman platform. And I would guess it will be both faster and more fuel efficient. But because it will be FWD biased and will have electronic steering (instead of hydraulic), it will most likely not handle as well, or it may handle as well but just may not have the same feel.

If it were me I would just wait for the new one as it will most likely have many more features than the current model. I would expect the new version of iDrive and many of the newer safety features and probably also adaptive cruise control.

But based on what you guys said, the new gen x1 probably wouldn't be released until early 2016 (or late 2015), that's still almost 1 year away!

By that time, it will be huge demand, and I will probably have to wait even longer to get an X1. Just don't knwo what to do!

I've been debating since last week on this. AHH

Last by not least, I am wondering if the new 2016 x1 will be released at the same time with other countries, as I am aware that x1 was first released in Europe in 2009, and it wasn't until 2012 before US/Canada got their hands on it. Wonder if the same will apply for the new gen. If that's the case, it will take at least 2-3 years for me to get my hands on the new gen!

Garage List
Canada got the X1 in 2011 as a 2012 MY. US got it a year later as a 2013 MY. The new model will probably be released in the US at the same time as Canada, Europe may get it a few weeks earlier.

The X1 was a vehicle that I think BMW thought would flop. They felt the market in Canada before releasing it to the US. Maybe they thought it was too small for the market, but because it's sales were extremely strong for the first year, BMW will undoubtedly release the F48 at the same time world wide.

The US got the x1 last as there wasn't production capacity as China was snagging the inventory. This is why Canada got them before the US. Once China's plant was producing x1's, Germany had capacity to serve the US.

Because the F48 is on the new FWD platform, who knows when or how they will disperse models based on the retooling needed.

The next generation X1 is a Mini Countryman, not a BMW.
