Can I use TPMS sensors from another model BMW?
I picked up a second set of wheels that have an a brand new set of Dunlop run flat snow tires installed on them. Pretty excited. The offset on them is ET 43, where my factory wheels are ET 34. This brings them 9mm closer to the suspension. Although I do have enough clearance, I already know that I should probably pick up some 10mm spacers. Everything else is identical. (Wheel size, tire size, hub size, lugnut size)
I notice that our wheels use 433mhz sensors, but the part number is different. Would anyone happen to know if the original 5 Series 433mhz OEM TPMS sensors that are still installed in the wheels will work with my X1? |

What year are they off of?
Personally, you need to get coding and ditch TPMS sensors all together...but that's just me... And identical hub size? I thought the 5 series has a larger hub bore...

I'm almost certain that will. Pretty sure that BMW uses the same sensors on all their cars.
And what's with the TPMS hate? Up here in the north BMW uses FTM and I never feel confident the system will actually warn me of low tire pressure. In fact it hasn't on more than one occasion Edit: I use 5 series (E60) wheels on mine and they're fine. The only thing I've noticed is the E60 used bigger bolts so the holes for those in the wheels are bigger, but I figure it should be fine since the wheels don't rest on the bolt threads anyway. |

What's with the hate? Namely the cost, both in buying extra sets if you've got summer/winter setups and the extra costs when changing tires. The world was just fine before tire pressure monitoring. Anyway, I was happy to remove my system, sell the transponder for $100 and the sensors for $200. $300 richer, and no more constant hassle of swapping sensors and/or the light on the dash all the time.

Yup, E60 wheels are ok, I guess it's only the older 5s what use the 74mm bore.

From the information I turned up, these E60 wheels have a 72.5mm bore and use a 12x1.5 bolt thread, which is the exact same as our X1 wheels. Here are the exact wheels I picked up. They are off of an E60. vstolpner - Do you have a square set of E60 wheels with the 43mm offest? No rubbing or any issues without spacers? If so, that is very helpful info. I'm primarily worried that the fronts are going to be too close to the strut. |

If 433Hz, you are probably okay, I picked another set of sensors for our X1. Different part number as well. I would have to do some looking for the part number as they mounted. As for wheel fit we picked these up for our buggy: http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/bmw/350. Same ET and bore, they are now the summer wheels.

Yeah it's a square set up. I'd have to check the exact offset on them but it's really close to my stock ones. These aren't my wheels but this is style:

TPMS from the Tire Rack are on my winter rims and they seem to work just fine. Buying from them is another alternative if you can't get hooked up with what you have; they are half as expensive as OEM.

They're nice wheels. Just something to keep in mind is the bolt size is different. These are made for larger size bolts so the bolt holes are a little larger (by 2mm of I recall correctly). I figure this shouldn't cause any problems however since the wheels sit on the hub and not on the thread of the bolts.
