Wheel & brake question.................
2014 X1 X-line
All 4 wheels have balancing weights (stick on type) on the inside of the wheel. Should factory new wheels have these weights on them? Both rear brakes discs have some rust on them, the fronts don't have any rust showing, is this normal? |

Yes, wheel weights are required to balance tires on the wheel. No tire is perfectly balanced because of the way the belts overlap, etc, so you use weights to offset that.
Brakes are iron, so they will develop surface rust if you haven't used them. The hats, the part that attaches them to the hub, can be aluminum or iron, the iron ones will get light surface rust on them too. Everything is normal and fine. |

I stopped by my dealership after posting these questions. They said it not usual but will happen from time to time. I walked around the lot and the only 3 cars that had the same rust where all X1's ?, all the others models whether new or used had no rust. The service Manager asked me to schedule an appointment so they can clean up the rust and apply what I what he described as an anti rust spray.

Can't hurt to have them use a spray to recoat the hats. It will hold up as long as you don't heavily use the brakes, ie track or serious mountain driving. It's purely cosmetic and nothing to worry about though.
