Nav issue...

Looking for the TJ Max last weekend that had moved from one shopping center near my home to across town...still, not too far away. This change happened well over 2 yrs ago. Nav pointed me back to old location and knew nothing of the new location. So just how OLD is the Nav Map Database?

This is what I've got...anyone in US have different?

Don't laugh HW!

If you have a 2013 X1, go back to the dealer for service. Report is that they are installing the 2013 maps at no charge. Check if you have an open recall.

The POI database has never been great in my experience. I use google through the MyBMW remote app which allows you to send POIs to the iDrive.

I love driving my X1. Have had it for 18 months now but the major thing I regret was springing for the Nav. Worst nav system I have ever used. Awkward to enter data, POI's stink, but the worst thing is that the routings suck at least here in Canada. Dug out my old Tom Tom. With the same settings, "fastest", "no highway" the Tom tom routing was over two hours shorter on a 4 hour trip. Another more serious problem was the X1 Nav system directed me onto an expressway off ramp instead of the on ramp. This was a remote entrance and I could easily have entered the wrong ramp at night.

I should say the screen is beautiful and the voice is good but I'm relying on my old Tom Tom.

BMW should hire Tom Tom or Garmin to supply Nav systems and get a touch screen.

While the map software is 2013, they still use some pretty old map data. This is the case with pretty much all map software - Garmin, Mapquest, Google, Microsoft Streets & Trips, you name it - they're all going to be pretty outdated. Neither of these have in the 2013 version discovered that the intersection closest to my house was changed from a 5-way to a 4-way -- almost 3 years ago. They all want me to drive through someone's lawn.
Why? Money, of course. Using up-to-date maps would be terribly expensive, so they mostly rely on older free maps.

I also regret adding the Nav, it's truly terrible! But in Aus it's the only way you can get a reverse camera on the X1.

Tom Tom does supply the maps for iDrive. My portable Tom Tom fares no better than iDrive.

Personally, I use the MyBMW Remote app for iPhone which allows me to use Google search, and send my result directly to the iDrive for navigation. It also helps me find my car in a parking lot as well as being capable of unlocking doors, flashing lights, and blowing horn. Works beautifully for me (requires iDrive and BMW assist).

There was just a review of idrive and nav in the Jan issue of Automobile magazine and BMW was actually ranked the best and easiest to use. Better than Ford MyTouch, Toyota Entune, Hyundai Blue Link, Cadillac Cue and Audi MMI Touch. It specifically said it was best in Navigation.
