XLine trim painting

Has anyone painted out the (cheap looking) bumpers, rockers, and wheel opening trim? I really think it makes the vehical look cheap, am I alone in my view?

I have. I'm pretty sure I made a post on here with pics. Search for it by going to my profile.

Looks a hell of a lot better.

Squishy, any chance you can link the post? I searched the forum and your user profile, but can't find anything.

Several people have removed the trim and painted it. Sometime ago someone posted pictures of an alpine white that they had painted.

Sure, no problem. I may have deleted the post, I'll just post new pics.

Give me until tonight.

IMHO the x-line trim is the only thing that gives the x-1 any semblance of a ute appearance and not a station wagon. Just my opinion.

I am sure you could find someone that is willing to trade you non-X-line trim for the X-line trim. Why would you get the X-line if you didn't like the way it looked? You know you paid extra for that. Basically paying a lot of money for the Wheels.

Any chance we can see clear photos of the trim you want to paint.
I'm also interested to see the other comments, photos and results.

I ended up painting just the wheel trim yesterday. I ordered 1 component color-matched paint and 2 component clear-coat from http://www.apstowerpaint.com/.

Attached pics are 1st coat, 4th coat, and the final coats including clear. (And yes, my wheels are dipped).

Ya don't care for the wheels either, but they will be ok for winter wheels. The reason I bought it was it was all the dealer had left in a full loaded X1 in a 2014, and the deals on the X1 were to good to pass up for 2015.

Now that's much better, but it want to go one step further, and do the bumpers as well. Look way more finished then the cheap plastic look. Great looking X1

I was actually thinking of going in a different direction to spruce up the bumpers...

My neighbor has a Mercedes GLK and I love the look of the chrome trim on the bumpers. I was thinking of having the silver plastic trim on the front and rear bumpers wrapped in chrome vinyl wrap. My car is Sapphire Metallic Black, so I think the contrast would look great. BTW, I have the "no trim" version of the X1, so my bumpers are similar to the X-line except my front bumper is missing the middle silver section. So I would just be doing this to the lower middle section of the front bumper, and then the whole lower section of the rear bumper.

My only concern is that the lower parts of the bumper sometimes can be hit with road debris and I wonder how the vinyl wrap would hold up. I would hate to spend the money and have it get worn through in a year or two. I've never done vinyl wrap on a car, so I'm not sure how durable it is.

Thanks, @FrozenInCND. I'm flip-flopping on painting the rest, as I think the black lower trim matches the black wheels pretty well. I will say that painting the trim was a pretty straightforward process and probably would have been even easier if I did everything instead of just the wheel arches.

@Eric5273, I don't have any experience with vinyl on the exterior of a car, but some quick googling around seems to show that vinyl vs. road debris, snow, and salt makes it last about a year or two.

That's what I'm talking about, looks way more polished. I got a quote to paint mine, looks like $1200ish. Not cheap but not to bad.
