iPhone 6s / iOS 11 USB connection

I have a first-gen X1 as a loaner while my car is in the shop. It's a very basic model with the basic audio system. I don't think it support bluetooth audio and when I connect my iPhone 6S (latest iOS version) with a USB cable, the little screen on the head unit says it is not supported.

Is it normal? I'll be driving this car for 2-3 weeks, it would be nice to listen to some music.

Use the car's AUX input. Usb can only change your phone. It's for flash drive only. Bluetooth will give you only phone calls.
