I think that pricing will be the biggest issue with sales, as BMW tends to offer options that can quickly add up to 5 figures. The segment that the X1 will compete in tops out in the high 20's/low 30's, the latter being the likely base price for the X1 with no options. One with any options at all may touch $40k easily, so it may be a tough sell in the country where 'size matters'. Also, the X1 sold here will most likely be manufactured at the Leipzig plant, so the actual cost to build it and ship it here could top X3 costs. If not priced competively, it could end up like the 1 series in this country - a nice small car with weak sales figures compared to the 3 series.

X1 will get a refresh this year
Paired with the N20 engine and the 8 speed sport - auto transmission it's just the perfect combo for a very dynamic not so large SUV
Also the fuel consumption is so good that I wouldn't even thinking to a diesel model (related to US market!)

The LCI X1 looks good, it's not massive in the UK though and now the Range Rover Evoque has an entry level 2wd pure for £28,000 I'd imagine we'll see less.

You guys got Evoques too yet?.

Do your homework. X3 sales are over the moon.

According to Information I read last week the X3 was the second fastest turning vehicle in the US, average inventory of 15 days. I think the X3 will continue to be the bigger seller due to production cost advantage in the US. I think they will keep the X1 inventory pretty lean and make people order them or bring them over with a lot of options at $42k plus.

I agree. The $30K smallish SUV segment is pretty hot in the US. But a nicely-optioned X1 will certainly be near $40K, or above.

You've seen an LCI X1? I saw camo'd shots, and couldn't tell much from the front. Rear was unchanged.

Maybe not...

I just received this google alert:

Anyone know if this is true?

I hope that detail doesn't show through.
The current Z4 is also an Exx model, the E89.

I don't see the fact that it's a last generation chassis as a negative since no one ever complained about the E90 chassis. The engine and transmission will be latest generation and if they spruce up the interior it should be great. My biggest concern is deciding between the X1 and F31 for my wife. F31 will probably be a couple grand more but better gas mileage and a little better handler.

Once available in the US, my "other half" will be driving one. I hope I don't end up liking it better than my X3 but it will be fun having both!

My mistake. However my point was that the car will see a maintained stint in the United States market for at least three or four years before receiving an update or replacement. I certainly wouldn't feel as comfortable with last generation's technology when almost all of the other models are Fxx. For most consumers, that won't matter. But I'd feel almost like I was duped into buying a car that isn't as up-to-date.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it. I'd just want the X1 to come here as a brand new model. I'm in no rush to get one, that is, if I'd even want one.

I saw a few X1s in Munich this summer. They are pretty neat. But... what are the chances BMW will bring the X1 into the US with a manual transmission, no iDrive, and the new 2.5l diesel? Does anyone believe there will be any manual transmission versions of the X1 in the US?

My guess would be yes but probably no cost option (ie making us pay) for the 6MT as is the new F30. BMW seeming to show less and less love for the enthusiast and more and more love for $. I get it, it just kinda sucks. They could at least give the homies a little throw in for going with the cheaper old tech row it 6- larger rotors, xenons, sport seats, something. Acura had it right (not sure if they're still doing this.)

No chance for a manual transmission in any X1 in the US IMHO.

I would give optional iDrive better than 50% chance. However, you may not be able to get some of the other options you want without ordering a package that also includes iDrive.

If you are talking about the ~215hp 4 cylinder diesel found in the 525d and 125d, that is 2.0L not 2.5L. I give this a pretty good chance of making it here given there has been a lot of rumor, including from SCOTT.

i take back what i said about driving bigger vehicles after i saw the pricing post... this thing is going to sell plenty and maybe... cut into the x3 sales a little bit.

I visited the NY Auto Show yesterday and oddy the X1 was roped off and we couldn't examine it. We couldn't get within 5 feet of it, let alone get inside it.

I was kinda bummed out.

You couldn't get near the orange one but the blue M sport was out in the open albeit locked? I inquired about how the orange one was equipped (with the sport seats but not the M sport pak) and they clearly had no idea. No word on a manual or diesel either. Not a big fan of the new 3, hate the packaging. Mazda's Takeri and the Merc E63 AMG wagon in frozen gray (so bad ass) were the highlights for me.
