BlueDriver or other OBD adapter for E84 X1?

Hi, any experience with OBD adapters for the E84 X1? Not for coding, but just for diagnostics and live data.

I have an older performance app (for android) that recommended any ELM bt/wifi adapter, but there's different ELM chips, many different adapters that say ELM, many that don't, and cheap knockoffs too I suspect.

A visit to the ELM site confirms what I already knew - I'm not an electronics designer!

I think all I've managed to piece together so far is that the 2014 E84 uses a CAN protocol, which means an ELM 327 or 329 chip is needed.

Looks like BlueDriver is a popular entry on Amazon, claims to be the most capable and the app the least annoying, though not the cheapest - do you get what you pay for?

well, I did learn from Lemur that the BlueDriver adapter will only talk to their app and vice-versa. Bummer, though not surprised.

So I will have to take a chance with one of the many ELM-based options out there. Hard to tell which ones are any good though....

I have 2 BT OBD ELM adapters and 2 K-DCAN cables that work fine with the X1 ECU comms. I use the KDCAN too hook up INPA for deep diagnostics. BT adapters for Torque app for general reads.

I use the MHD orange wifi adapter. Perhaps it works with other apps besides MHD? To connect, you just select the MHD wifi network on your phone.

Edit: I've also used it with xHP, but those are the only two apps I've tried with my car.

I too have the Mhd WiFi adapter. I've used it for both the mHD flash and xHP flash. Both flashes are very fast. Less than 2 minutes for initial, and about 30 seconds for subsequent flashes.

Hi Gamb1t, do you have the 2.0L or a 3.0L?

The MHD wifi adapter mentioned by others here appears to only work for N54/55 engines, not N20, so apparently it makes a difference for that brand (which makes me wonder about other adapters).
