Wheel Fit

I've been using an offset calculator and think I'll be OK, but does anyone know if a 17x9 ET30 wheel with 255/40 17 tires fit on an E84?

I'm not running that size, but they should fit. Others here are running similar widths/offsets with no reported issues.

PrematureApex would be a good person to ask. I know the wheel and tire will fit but I'm not sure which offsets you would need to run.

They should fit with no issues. You are looking at being 0.12" closer on the inside.

With my track tires I'm at almost 0.2" with no problems.

The main drawback is really appearance. The X1 benefits visually from moving the tires out some, where you will be moving them inward.

But then I'll take the added safety and performance of winter tires over appearance any day!

Your tracking an X1? I used my Mazda RX-7 FD and RX-8 R3 for time attacks.

I have a X1 s28i, and RX8 of which I tracked both.

I leave traction control on.

The rear brakes work more than the fronts on the X1, since they are used as a differential power shifter.

I tracked RX8 approx 15 times and X1 approx 5 times.

I NEVER tracked the RX8 after I got the X1 becuase the X1 felt like more power, and more fun.

RX8 can maybe hold more speed in a corner, but the pull out torque of X1 over shadows that.

I wouldn't consider even messing with suspension or alignment on X1 car feels so good.

I had to buy BHR fuel pump and ign, Bilstein B12 suspension kit, and 2 alignments to get RX8 to work on track.

X1 s28i only needed 12mm front spacers, and still worked pretty good on Pirelli P7's run Flat summers.

I've done a minor upgrade to StopTech slotted rotors, Hawk brake pads and Motul brake fluid and these perform great.

The first couple of times I went out were on the stock rotors/pads. They were pretty good, although I did notice some fading. Although it's equally as likely that the stock fluid was the culprit.

Same here, I bought the X1 over a 3-series because of things like the added ground clearance. So why would I want to lower it.

I can understand other people doing so, but it defeats the purpose of the car for me.

As to the original inquiry: I'm running 18x9 ET30's (ARC-8's) with 255/40's (Pilot Super Sports) all around on my E84 X1 with stock M Sport suspension. No fitment issues whatsoever. Replaced the factory staggered 19's -- ride, handling, turn-in all noticeably improved.
