X1 Xenon retrofit ...

Hi Guys,

I have an X1 with Halogen lights...

I purchased non AHL Xenon Headlights from EU.

I plugged them in .. HALO RINGS + EYEBROWS ( Work but flash )
Blinker is working OK

Xenon not turning on, I might have bad bulbs or ballast .. but maybe I need to change some wiring before that will work ?

Does anyone have any experience with this ?

thank you

I think so.
For the halo rings you need to code off voltage monitoring.
You can use BMWhat for that.

From the pins it should be driven by pin 5.
Does it show any faults?

The plot thickens...

I found more info for you:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=695805

It seems you need to switch pin 5 and 6 (I did not know this)

Have you coded DRL to angel eyes?

nope, but wouldn't be that by default ?

I think I might need FRM 3 that supports xenon and move some pins on FRM ...

I wonder if I could take 12V from IGN ON and feed directly to AE's

thoughts ?

You could certainly put in a controller which bypasses the ECU altogether and goes straight from the battery. Just in this case you won't be able to control them through coding. Also, the car will try to run something else as DRL's, and if you're coming off of a halogen setup that would be high beams. So you would still have to code that out unless you want to run high beams all the time or burn out your HID ballast.

I guess I can disable any DRL's in FRM ... and supply pin 1 with 12V... but where to hook up to 12V ...

The E90 guys connect pin 1 and 7.
I suggest you measure 7 to see if it had power.

Not sure it it will work:
Quote from that page:
Join pin #1 to pin #7 to get the 3 LED's to function, they will turn on whenever your angel eyes are on. All wiring can be done inside the headlight with wiretaps (since the headlight harness won't have a wire for pin 7 on a non LCI car) and is completely reversible.

If you're looking for a straight source from the battery then there's the jump start post on the passenger side towards the back of the engine compartment (look for the red cap). That's a straight connection to the battery as far as I'm aware.

Normally turning off voltage monitor will stop flicker on LED's also setting it to max brightness to make sure the FRM does not use PWM to modulate intensity.

Your bulbs may be just fine. Identify the power wires for the lights and connect them directly to a 12V source (like the battery) capable of 50-60W. If they light, your bulbs and ballasts are fine, if not, well....

Hey

I finally completed the retrofit.
Everything is working as expected.

Didn't need to replace FRM... x1 came with AHL module... so I highly recommend checking before ordering new one

I didn't use harness just the stock cables moved at the plug and frm.

I didn't install leveling sensor ... but that's a piece of cake.

Thank you to everyone here that was helping.

I will write up how to ... shouldn't take longer than 2hrs to install everything
