Anyone thinking of Model 3 to replace their X1?

I just put in a deposit for Model 3 with the intent of replacing our X135 in early 2019 when the lease is up.

possibility for AWD, small hatch, with great in cabin tech and 215+ mile range is very appealing to me.

Anyone else thinking about the Model 3?

I'm quite intrigued by the specs of the model 3, but I think it would have to be a second car and not a replacement of the X1 for us.

How is it on the inside compared to our X1?

haven't sat in one.

Seems like interior consists of steering wheel + ipad from the pics !

It seems the A4/C-class/3er is the benchmark so I would expect it to be like those cars

I did also put down deposit. My hope is keeping the X1 (100k mile + by 2019) for a secondary car for a bad weather and homedepot-wagon duty. Now my wife is also interested into Kia Niro (she need a decent priced hybrid to drive around NYC everyday); if we get Niro then the X1 can be replace.

Yeah we go on too many long trips for an all electric vehicle to be our only car

I have no desire for a bleeding-edge vehicle as my DD. I'll be interested 4+ years down the line when they have more of the bugs worked out. But for now I'm quite happy in my brand new car built on a 10+ year old platform.

True. Apparently model S reliability hasn't been super

Guess we'll see how it all plays out.

I really wanted to cross shop the model 3. But I didn't want to and won't wait that long to actually see the production car. I got into an i3 REX Recently.

I really more than anything wanted to support the tech and future advancement of EVs it's important. If we all wait "until there's better range, or reliability," then the tech will disappear and we will continue to be dependent on ICE. I can see more cars being primarily electric, and having a secondary gas motor on board. Like the i3 REX

I also thought about the model 3. The price is very reasonable and even more so if you can get the tax credit. However like others have said, I am worried about first gen and reliability issues. Also I read it is a standard trunk and not a hatch. Not sure if that is a deal breaker for you.

I'm hoping there will be a hatch version at some point.

I could get behind a sedan type trunk. We had a 335 for 3 yr as a daily before the X1 and it was fine

The first gen issues are a worry but in some ways, is Model 3 going to be first gen? I'm GUESSING there will be a ton of parts binning going on, and hopefully the parts used will be thoroughly beta tested by the Model S and Model X owners by the time the Model 3 rolls along. As drivetrain tech in general, I was under the impression that the electric cars were pretty simple as compared to ICE cars?

In any case, unless you already own a Tesla, it'll be 2-3 years before you'd be able to get one. Might as well wait and see what else is available by then. The upcoming hybrid/ev X1 sounds pretty interesting.

It will be a few years before I'm ready to replace mine. I'm hoping I'll like the new X3

That's what I'm counting on, actually. We just started the 36 month lease on our x1, so 3 years to get a Model 3, and hopefully a hatchback small SUV version is perfect...

I am just scratching my head trying to figure out how Tesla is going to deliver a car which is very close to Model S 70D in terms of specs for half the price? It is not like they are making a bunch of money on Model S. Well, I think they cannot, and they won't, meanwhile they just have an interest free loan from depositors. They just bumped up the price for Model X entry model by $3000. The car has not been in production yet and already gets a price hike. Just because they say Model 3 will be $35k doesn't mean that they can make it. They tend to over promise and under deliver. Sorry, no interest free loan from me.
