2016 X5 - Loaner Vehicle - Thoughts

I took my 2015 X1 in for dealer service. They gave me a 2016 X5 35i loaner vehicle. My thoughts on the X5 after a couple hundred miles are that while it does have a more comfortable ride than the X1, the steering is devoid of any feel. It also conveys its mass and does not feel overly sporty or car like but does handle pretty well for such a large vehicle. I do like the newer entertainment system and more informative displays, but I still prefer my X1. An X5M would be a whole different beast I am sure, but I do think when I do upgrade it would be an X3 or X4M - the X5 simply feels too big.

Yup...EPS hurts a lot...but more generally, I enjoy smaller cars.

I'd rather use a cargo box, etc. to expand space vs. driving around a car that big all of the time.

Now...if my wife wants to get herself an X5M, who am I to argue?

Interesting thoughts on the X5. I'm totally with you on it being too big of a car. I've got a cargo box suspended off our ceiling so that I can easily set it up if there's a need for more space.

I was in a new X3 recently and I was surprised how big it was - I thought it was an X5 at first :-/
I can't imagine how huge the X5 must feel.
Even with the X3 I felt it was a large car. It's probably because it's a different chassis and I would probably feel that way even in the newer X1. Guess my next car will be a sedan (not a fan of the ride on most crossovers)

Last week I took a full load of boxed apparel to a customer, (in my X1) and loaded her brand new X5. It all fit, but there was almost no room left, so I was surprised, to say the least.

I guess bigger doesn't mean more spacious....

I've gotten X5 as a loaner before as well and it's too big for my 2 adults, no kids, 1 dog family

If I need a vehicle that's really large I have my eye on the MB Metris or Sprinter vans....

I had the E53, a manual sports package, and it was an amazing vehicle. But as it grew larger and heavier, this was bound to happen...especially the electric steering.

A non M-Sport E84 feels more "dead" as well. Have you tried an M-Sport X5? If the loaner was a base model, it is intended to feel soft.

While I have not tried the sport trim of the X5, when we were test driving we drove a standard trim of the X1 and it still felt very lively. I do think this has a lot to do with the hydraulic vs EP power steering assist.
I do think that even if the X5 had the sport trim and hydraulic steering, it still cannot hide it's size and mass both of which I am not a fan of.
