E84 N55 Transmission Temperature

Hello All,

Does anyone know at what temperature does the transmission starts to cool down? Or what temp does the valve open to start cooling mine has reached up to 218F is that normal for the transmission ? I will attach a screen shot of the temp. Any help will help I wanna know if there’s an issue with the valve or radiator drain plug.

I have a 2013 BMW X1 X35iXDrive the E84 N55
It does have an oil cooler however the transmission has a bypass I believe that is connected to the coolant system.

Is 232F a normal engine temp for an n55? Seems on the high side.

I think 232F is pretty normal for coolant temp. Putting around I think they run 230's, and getting on the gas the setpoint drops down to 215 - 220 ish.

I've read n55's normally run hot by design for efficiency, then at WOT, the setpoint reduces for performance. I believe they target even higher temps in eco pro mode.

Hello all thanks for the replies however I was inquiring in regards to the transmission temperature I believe it is reaching some dangerous temps. I went ahead and purchased the burger Motorsport trans cooler kit for the 335i and 135i which I’ll be installing this weekend hopefully it fits.

Just checked my X1 35i. Coolant was about 230, Oil about 245. Did not check trans temp but usually should be well under 200

For what it's worth, here's another transmission temp data point. I wasn't up to engine oil temp for very long, so I don't know if it would have risen much more. This was just after an evening commute, so not spirited driving or anything. Running Xhp stage 2 transmission flash driving in sport mode.

Thank you so much for the logs let me know if it reaches higher mine went super high I would say I have now bypassed the trans heat exchanger with a BMS trans air cooler I haven’t driven it far enough to see the high temp but planning this weekend.
