Did BMW upgrade to LED DRL halo rings with LCI?
I found a lot of posts in the archives about the Lux lighting kit for making the X1's daytime running light halo rings whiter and brighter than the stock dirty yellow color. Did BMW change the halo ring bulbs on the X1 during the last Life Cycle Impulse (product refresh), making these kits unnecessary for the newest X1s? The old threads reference an H8 halogen bulb, but I notice the 2013 X1 marketing information talks about LED DRLs. So are 2013+ halos already brighter/whiter than the earlier cars? Or do they still use the yellowish H8 bulb?

Looking at RealOEM.com it looks like a bulb change. H8 12V 35W.

They are very white. I don't know that they are LED though--maybe just cool white halogens.
There are a ton of aftermarket BMW halo LED replacements--I think most of the no-name ones are junk. My neighbor's set blew out one side after just 3 months. |

This is a closeup from my 2015 X1. Not the best pic because it's daytime, but they are very very white. I'm pretty sure they are LED. A friend of mine has a 2009 3 series coupe convertible and his angel eyes look much more yellow. I'm very happy with mine.

My '13 is also very white, but I've seen brighter rings on newer BMW sedans.

I don't think there is H8 bulbs at all in the LCI xenons.

No. We're talking about the Xenon lights, specifically the rings.

This might sound stupid as I am very noob when it comes to cars.
But whats with Halo vs. Xenon? I thought they are different? So how can Halo be so bright/white? I am planning to buy lighting package because of the angel eyes... |

BMW changed from an incandescent bulb to a LED on 2013+ models. They even list them as "LED Corona Rings" on their website.
IMO they are perfect. Yes, the new x5 seems to have brighter LEDs but they actually blur the crispness of the ring. I find them too bright. Stock 13+ x1 LED rings are perfect. Quote:
Halos are the corona rings pictured above. They are your accent, DRL lights. Xenon is a bulb that is used for nighttime driving. When you upgrade to the xenon lights, BMW gives you the LED corona rings. If you don't opt for xenon, you get old incandescent bulbs (both as headlights and DRLs). |

The halos on past BMWs used to be driven by regular halogen bulbs. Newer BMWs now use LEDs instead of halogen bulbs, including possibly the LCI X1s. That is the question the OP posed. |
