Spare tires?

I know someone will say search, but I am always on here on iPhone and I have no idea how to search, so please help a guy with either thread or a simple answer.

I bought wife a 2014 X1 2.8 to replace her 2011328xit. I had taken off her run flats and thrown a 17" spare (135/80/17) in to help if needed. I know she shouldn't need it, but would this fit?

If no one knows, I can try it.

Thanks!

Absolutely zero need for a spare. The runflats are much better than that small spare which could potentially cause more damage to your differential than it's worth. Also, it may not clear the calipers depending on the wheel maker

Took delivery of our X1 yesterday. We're going to try to stick with RFT's given the reasons Twix indicated above. Our salesman explained that the key to RFT is not to let them run completely out of air for too long to avoid tire damage and having to buy a new tire. He said most flats are puncture-related. He highly recommended BMW's tire repair kit in the event one is too far from a gas station to put air. The 12V air pump + sealant will help keeping up the air pressure for much longer. We should be receiving our tire repair kit later this week as a new shipment is just arriving from Germany.

That goop you stay into the deflated tire is an absolute nightmare to get off the wheel. Also, once punctured, no matter how much air pressure is lost, a runflat will have to be replaced as the integrity will be compromised

Yeah, he didn't tell you that the RFT are also more prone to punctures and that one tire cost as much as two regular tires. He sold you the kit which will fill with foam the whole chamber but that will also be very hard to clean later on.
Did he mentioned that with the RFT you can not go more than max 100 km radius and you can not find these tires everywhere?
So, bottom line, you still can't benefit much once you are outside the big city.
Also, keep in mind, the selection is very thin, you must buy the same tire, and you can not install a tire that has a big difference in thikness, otherwise you will destry the differential. Plus, not everybody knows to do or acceptto repair a RFT.
With a normal tire, you will always find one, even ifis notthe same brand, at leastyou can make it home, and is cheaper.

I have the kit, however I have switched to non- RFT, my original tires are on their wheels, very happy with the change.

This is one main problem I have against BMW. Put a spare in there for God's sake... It is a sport vehicle, It is made to go outdoors with it, what the heck...

I've repaired the same run-flat twice without issue on our last lease, so they most certainly don't HAVE to get replaced each time. They're soft as butter and expensive/tedious to replace. I'm all for non-RFT on most vehicles.

I've repaired two run flats and right in the warranty section for the tire it says they can be repaired for punctures in the tread. Took one out of our Mini at 800 miles and put 24,000 miles on the tire.

I had a Goodyear EfficientGrip runflat repaired at around 3,000 kms. I've just replaced it (along with the other 3 original tyres) at 52,000 kms, so very much repairable!

I went off road this week & a small screw screwed me by puncturing my passenger side tire. I didn't noticed it until i got an indicator showing low air pressure & went to firestone to see whats wrong then they told me there is a screw in my tire. I put some air in it & went to BMW service & they charged me $340 for a new tire + labour. mine are continental conti pro 18" tires.

but besides being pricy even i had a flat tire it didnt created any issue for me for driving almost 70-80 miles around 70 m/hr.

So i think run flats works better even you got a flat tire also. but if you are running off-road / under construction zones i suggest to take BMW tire maintenance program which saves you some bucks tire repairs & etc.
