2015 M-Sport tire question

Hi

I'm looking at a leftover X1 with the M-sport option. I live in Mi. and have heard
the ride is pretty brutal with the 19" RFTs. How much difference would it make, if the dealer switched out the tires to a non run flat? Would a 50 series work?

Thanks,Tony

What have you been using for wheels/tires on the FiST? And how has it been for you on the roads there?

Probably cost effective to sell the 19s and grab a set of 18s (or even, gasp, 17s) and go non run flat yourself.

It all depends on personal preference. I had the 19s and thought they were perfectly fine. I also came from a lowered and stanced Mazda RX8. A 50 series tire will be WAY to tall. Go drive the car for yourself and see. Thats really the only way to know.

I'm sure 19s are just fine in Naples

Roads up north are brutal. And where he lives, they're some of the worst in the country. Like war zone esq.

But I agree of course, go for a drive for sure and see how bad they are.

It had 40 series and it was really stiff. It's sold.

I can't imagine the X1 being that stiff but from what I've read it might be close.

Yeah, I'm in Western NY, and I wouldn't want to run 19's around here, though there are plenty of people who do.

On M-Sport suspension? You bet it'll be stiff with 19's and RF's. My personal preference/suggestion is get some lightweight 18's and summer tires, then go to a separate set with snows for winter.

Non RFTs 19" won't be that much of an improvement? I just don't want to spend another 2K on tires and wheels on a new car.

It will be somewhat of an improvement, but low profile 19s still ride harsh.

$2k in wheels and tires?

To start, you can spend significantly less than that on a brand new aftermarket 18" setup from tire rack.

And the point is, you sell your nice fancy, new 19s. Meaning, you may not even spend a dime when it's all said and done.

If you want to stay OE wheels, the 18s w/tires in the link I posted were $1000 shipped (there's another set for $600 for sale, not tires, but you'd have to convince him to ship). You'd get more than than for your 19s. Again, netting you money.

Is there a non-M Sport Line on the lot? Try to get the dealer to swap wheel sets for free.

More likely would be swapping with an M-Sport with 18s I think.

But yeah, getting the dealer to bite on trading more valuable 19s for 18s is the best-case, as far as hassle goes.

Then again, you're likely still paying for a car with 19s...so you've still paid for the convenience of not swapping/selling yourself.

It turns out, I guess it has 18s. I thought 19s were standard on the M-Sport.

That should help a bit.

Oh nice...yeah, you'll be looking to move away from the runflats in the future. See how you do with them.

You're only option after that is to move down to 17s (rough with the huge wheel wells of the E84), up-size the tire a bit to gain some sidewall, and/or hope they start selling some Konis for the car to smooth out the ride.

I had RFTs on a 335d, that weren't too bad but I didn't have the sport option.

I can deal with stiff but not harsh.

Thanks again!

After sitting on the lot 6 months, they sold it yesterday. They do have a new 2014 x1 2.8 for around 32K. Around eight thousand off. Not sure if that's a good deal considering it's two years old.
