New Member W/ a couple questions
Hello everyone,
My wife and I took delivery of our new 2014 X1 35i just last week to replace her 2011 Z4 ( we're adopting a child soon and needed more room) and yesterday I did my first "mod", disabling the butterfly valve in the muffler for a little more tone. She liked it btw saying that the X1 didn't "hum" like her Z4 did. Anyway, here's my question. I've noticed that the vehicle has what can best be described as torque steer. Either at highway or lower speeds, when you tip into the throttle with any authority, the vehicle pulls slightly to the right. I didn't know if this was a quirk of the vehicle or am I just the lucky person who has a issue with a brand new car. I figured that if the tire pressures were to blame from being low, it would show via the tpms, but if it were a tire pressure issue, it would pull to the right all the time. We have the 18" wheels standard on the M-Sport package running the Conti's for tires. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks in advance. |

Can't say I've noticed it either.
Put a gauge on those tires for a more accurate number, and to eliminate that as a possibility. Have you considered the road crown as a possible culprit? What happens if you boot it in the left lane? Moon |

I have noticed this as well.
Also a surge in the RPM's during low speed backing up. I may get the dealer to check it out. Let us know what you find... Same set up X1 35i with MSport...I was thinking it could be something to do with Performance Control |

I will manually check the pressures to see where I stand. Reading about the people who drag race their X1's is entertaining. One guy is cutting 1.60's in the 60'. Impressive for a street car. I run the same'ish 60' times on my bike, but ending with a time in the 9.50's with a trap speed of 148-151 mph. |

The torque steer may be caused by road crown and the fact the the front wheels get power unlike the Z4.
As for the filter, I've cooked a few MAF sensors in my day using K&N, so I stay away. You might gain a few ponies, but cleaning the MAF wire is annoying and no fun. I believe BMS has an intake kit for the 35i which would be more worth the $$ spent.

I've felt the front tires grab on a real hard turn, I think it's when the 4 wheel drive kicks in. I used to drive a WRX and never noticed it (as the awd is always on, vs just when the front tires slip)
maybe that's what your feeling.... |

The xDrive system is also always on. 40/60 f/r torque split for 28i, 20/80 for the 35i.

oh, that's darn cool. thanks Twix, I thought it worked more like the Tiguan 4Motion system. All the talk about sending power to slipping wheels and what not, I assumed that it was rear wheel drive until slippage.
