I agree with DC! BMW has to find a solution. It's quite embarrassing to pull up to a light in your $40k+ X1 and be looked at by other drivers because your brakes are squeaking so badly. We now have about 800 kms on the newly-replaced pads and they're still squeaking horribly...

We need to talk to the head tech at Parkview. He was quite sympathetic on taking this one on.

I just had my GT in for service there yesterday and talked to the tech person who helped with our X1 a couple weeks ago. He said if the brakes are still squeaking in another 200 kms or so, they will get it back in and try something else. Let me know if you hear anything, and I will too. Thanks!

My X1 brakes are always squealing

BMW IS replacing pads and or rotors on X1.

service rep said this bulletin has been out for 2 weeks now .

Unless this is a BMW "secret" warranty.

A few years back i had the complete set of run flat tires changed twice under the Bridgestone/BMW secret warranty .

If you didn't complain about the noisy tires , they did nothing .

2 different dealers changed the tires no charge 6 months apart .

so all you X1 owners run to your dealers and ask about this bulletin.

New pads and maybe rotors for everyone

I called Canbec in MTL and the lady kept insisting that the squealing is normal for all cars in cold weather...i insisted but to no avail.

Can you guys give me a reference number or something concrete I can get back at these guys?

PS: Cracked wiperfluid reservoir on our new X1

Hey all,

I brought the X1 for this issue at Park Ave BMW in Brossard and they confirmed it is a bad batch of pads from the factory.

They replaced the pads. Problem fixed. At under 10000km it was not necessary to change the rotors.

Since these are just regular 3 series pads, there is no shortage of stock on these parts

Cheers

Same thing as R0uter.

They only changed front pads though. Will see if problem persists.

Has anyone who had squeaky brakes found that the problem has either gone away completely, or lessened somewhat. Ours have only gotten worse and worse - definitely going back to the dealer for another service... I thought it might be outdoor temperature related (for a while it seemed that when it was colder - eg. sub-zero Celcius - the brake-squeaking was horrendous, but then, when the the temperature warmed to +5 C, I noticed they were still squeaking, but randomly - one corner, huge squeaking, the next corner, with the same brake pedal pressure, no squeaking at all... What gives? What can cause this problem to be 'persistently-inconsistent'?? Could it be moisture-related (i.e., when the pads get wet, or even damp, they squeak, but when dry, they are squeak-free)?? Anyone have any thoughts on these random musings? Whatever the problem, I hate driving the X1 right now - I can't stand squeaking brakes (especially on a $50k vehicle)! I'll take my GT whenever I go out...

Problem is that brakes should not squeak in any of those conditions. Please see the head tech at Parkview when you go in.

All of you take your x1's back. There are 3 recalls. For the brakes, we replace the pads from jurid to saxid. There is a programming recall, and also a recall to add clamps on a turbo waste gate "T" vacuum fitting. Every x1 I see has those loud brakes but you have to complain about it for them to do something.

What's "jurid" and "saxid"? What are the p/n's?

I had the pads changed at Canbec .

problem came back a few days later.

the bad batch of pads is BS .

Bmw is dragging their feet on this issue .

they cleaned again and opened a PUMA , whatever this is .

BMW fix this problem !

There is no official recall. They will address the issue if you go in and bring it to their attention.

As far as I know, they are on their second attempt to fix this, but owners are still having problems.

They just replaced the front brake pads and rotors yesterday - so far, it's eerily silent - no squeaks at all... yet... I'll update you guys again in a couple weeks. It's so nice to drive the X1 without the brakes squeaking! Feels like a different vehicle.

What are the part numbers for this change? I'm trying to figure out what's the latest. Thanks.

Hi DC - actually I don't know the part numbers yet - they are mailing the final work order to me. However, quick update - they started squeaking again tonight... I'll first see if it's an isolated incident, but if not, I'm going to start complaining in a big way, because this is inexcusable!
