I also have a Mac and use the freeware software "doubleTwist" (www.doubletwist.com). It works in conjunction with iTunes and creates identical iTunes playlists for usb drives instead of your iPod. Plug in a tiny usb drive and forget about the special BMW Apple cable that came with my 2014 X1 s28i with standard Professional Radio that must be used with an iPod.

GVL: SanDisk 16GB flash drives come preformatted with FAT32.
John: mine will not even play a single album. I can see the info on the drive but can't play any of the tracks (songs.) thosw: Great! Will try that next. I played with a different app this morning, but the problem continued. |

Double Twist worked . My flash drive works like my ipod did. That being said itunes would not allow 154 songs to copied unless I paid additional money per song. I paid once to get them the first time. WTF!

So I downloaded DoubleTwist today to my MacBook. Then I reformatted the flash drive because it was full of thousands of songs that didn't work in the car. I opened DoubleTwist and copied a couple of albums onto the flash drive as a test. Anxiously rushed to the car. IT WORKED BEAUTIFULLY!!!
I just finished copying all my entire song collection. All of them play now in the X1. Thosw: You really solved this problem. I searched for countless of hours on the internet to no avail. THANK YOU!!! |

These drives still work as expected in Windows and MacOS, but not in the version of QNX that BMW uses (and some flavours of Linux). When the USB key is reformatted, it gets a partition table, and everybody is happy. It's a case of "almost everybody uses Windows anyhow, so why should we care?", and drives appearing as a whopping 32 kB bigger without the partition table. My advice: Always format a new drive before use, no matter whether it comes formatted. |

Dragging this thread back from the dead to express my gratitude. I was already using double twist for my Android phone. THis is awesome.
I like Mac's but they are so obtuse playing nice with other platforms. |
