Here’s a twist on the question of how many miles… How many of you have high mileage and have not had to do the timing chain tensioner warranty on the N20 engine? I’m at 70,000 miles and my engine is perfect but now I’m starting to worry. I change the oil at 5000. I drive easy. And the car has had a quiet happy life since I purchased it new. Should I keep going or get rid of it to avoid a potential grenade event??

R19 on rear and R17 on front
120,000 kms on 2010 x1 20d x drive, loving it.
It's time to change all 4 tyres. Thinking of putting non run flats - R19 on rear and R17 on front, all tyres fit within the bmw recommendation. Should that be alright? Cheers |

Mileage
purchased used 2013 in winter 2019, ~ 54,000km. Now 1 year later, ~64,000km, so 10,000 trouble free km's. I try to find an excuse to get out and drive 'er anytime I can. ZERO regrets, these whips basically do it all. Part truck, part car, fun, fairly fast stock, safe in winter, descent fuel economy if careful and look good with unique body styling that won't age quickly. Really surprised I don't see more out there in Canada.

Tailed off rapidly in last few months
39,000 miles on clock since 2013 - but only 1600 miles in last seven months due to pandemic and UK lockdowns.

I bought my 2014 X1 2.8 S Drive 10 months ago with ~83,000 miles on it.
Fun, comfortable car, fast and decent fuel economy (25-28 MPG) It's in the shop now (92,000 miles), valve cover gasket leaking badly (it leaks onto the exhaust manifold, smelly and smoky). Repair will be about $680 USD! It may also need a valve cover ($650 list at the dealer, about $450 elsewhere), mechanic said he's seen them develop cracks. |

Just passed 100k miles on my '14 35i M Sport (purchased new Spring '15). Been tuned with a JB4 since about 20k, and with JB4+BEF for the last 15k. Oil and filter every ~4k. Always very easy on the throttle until the oil temp comes up to at least 180F, and WOT only above ~210F.
Other stuff so far (all diy): - plugs 3x - coils - coolant drain/refill 3x - transmission fluid/pan 2x - diffs and transfer case 2x - OFHG (was leaking at 77k) - water pump/thermostat (preemptive) - brake pads/rotors - brake fluid 3x Looking into a walnut blast now, but I don't have an air compressor or Shop-Vac. Dealer wants $850, and the nearest indys are about the same. Also time for new shocks/struts. Still runs 0-60 under 4 seconds, and a mid-12 second 1/4. Hella fun car! |

Nice too see. I thought mine was high mileage. Glad to see you're also on original timing chain and guides.

2013 X1 xrive28i ~640000, ~10,000 of those are mine, had it for a year so far and basically trouble free, just now the starter went so I replaced the starter and put a new battery in at the same time for our harsh winters. Hopefully that should be it for a while. Starts like a damned bull now. Overall this vehicle is hard to beat. Handles like a snowmobile in the snow, it's like it's made for it.

It's been a slow climb since COVID happened and we're WFH-ing. I think we accumulated about 6,000km since last Aug topping at 104k km right now.

2014 X1 S-Drive. I thought I got a decent deal...
95,000 miles and the valve cover cracked last month. Parts and labor $1100. Now the transmission is jerking when downshifting from 7th or 8th gear during moderate acceleration. I wonder what THAT will cost? |

Picked mine up in 2019 with 30k on it. Thanks to covid and short commute anyways, just hitting 45k.
Unfortunately, things seem to be falling apart for me. Just replaced a/c blower, door handle sensor is not working to lock/unlock, washer fluid was freezing up this winter, and a weird whistling noise now.. |

On the N20 owners are you still running on the original timing chain guides?
