18'' wheels on sdrive1.8?

Soon I will get my jet black sdrive 1.8. I'm expecting car to be mine on Dec 15th BUT I still cannot decide which wheels to choose...

I have set up my car and ordered with the V-spoke 318. Doing a vote test with my friends they most preferred the star spoke 319 or the 317...

I'm quite confused as discussed this with the salesman and he told me to decide, once the car will be here he will be able to swap wheels but once is done is over I cant go back again if I dont like them..

From all the wheels available I like more the 323 but its 18'' and I know that this is gonna increase the fuel consumption, will prevent off road driving and will make the whole driving most uncomfortable with the low 45 profile, especially in my area where the roads are not good for 45 profile.

Car is sdrive1.8
jet black
x-line
satin aluminium kidneys
chrome window recess covers
aluminium roof rails
vermilion red cloth upholstery
xenon
shark fin antenna
etc..

whats your opinion about the wheels guys?

Fom an aestetical point of view I would Would prefer the 322 rims. These are 18" rims and quite expencive - since the car feel quite "stiff" on bad road conditions having run-flat tires - I would go for the any of the 17" rims instead and used the extra money for an Xdrive option. Of these I think the 319 looks nice. From a practical point of view the standard 317 are the simplest to keep clean.

Just my 2 cents

319 for 17 rims, 322 for 18 rims in my opinion.

Go for 18" ... you will regret it if you go with 17" ... I drove with both and the ride is same on 18" as on 17" since there is only 5% difference in height. I would go anytime with 18" or even with 19" ) ... I will get second set of 18" for my winter tires as well...

Not when you are my age. Drove both in a 2.0 and the 17" were a lot more comfortable than the 18". The 2.3 I tested with 19" was just plain torture on my back.

Yes I agree with you on that point but really I did not feel big difference other then the car is more stick to the road with nicely / sporty feeling. Did you test drive the car that had 17" with runflats or without them. Cause without runflats there is difference, big one... In general ok I might be not good address for this since I am coming from 1 series with M-suspension and 18" wheels with 35% tire height so that was true go-kart =). Now that I have X1 without sport suspension on 18" that is true comfort for me.

For a better look go with 18". If u're interested in off road action, than it s better to choose 17" ones.

I reckon there are very little comfort difference in terms of ride quality between 17" and 18" ,but the visual difference is huge , unless ur road are like minefields, go with 18" : )

Any thoughts?

servotronic?

do you recommend the servotronic if you go with the 18 inch? i didn't like the feel of the servotronic with the 17 inch-too loose

If anything, Servotronic should help, as it reduces the power assist as the speed increases.

The choice is only available for the xDrive 28i:
sDrive 28i: Electronic steering
xDrive 28i: Hydraulic steering, Servotronic optional
xDrive 35i: Hydraulic steering with Servotronic

If it's too light for your liking and you mainly drive at low speeds, you can probably get the wheel alignment adjusted to reduce the camber angle. This will make turning at low speeds slightly harder, and buy you a small amount of grip in good conditions.
(Perhaps the 17"ers had been put on without the alignment adjustment needed when changing wheel sizes? That would explain the difference.)

Steering would be a little looser with 18s than 17s if anything. Sounds like you need to consider xDrive.

Rumor is that the servotronic option in sDrive actually tightens steering a bit.

With sDrive, you already get electronic steering, so there will already be a disconnect there. Servotronic in that case will only change the formula for how much you have to turn the wheel to how much the front wheels turn at given speeds. You will still "fly by wire", so to speak.

I found the ride of the 18" run flats a little harsh, although the 18" wheels look cool. Can anyone recommend a non run-flat tire to replace the run-flats? The car I ordered should be here in 6 weeks.
