MHD Ecu unlock, software only!

MHD did it those crazy brilliant bastards. I haven't reviewed all the details but there is a software unlock for late model E series now!

I'm beyond excited. I'll be flashing this weekend when I get home and can review the needed steps.

All you need to do is use the latest version of the app now. Brilliant work.

Flashed stage one. Love it. Eventually will install downpipe and intercooler and go stage 2+.

So all you need is the app and to purchase one of the maps?

I assume you need a cable to connect to the ECU, as well?

Correct. Or the MHD WiFi adapter will work. I had the cable laying around.

If it gets flashed back to stock is it detectable that it was once not stock?

No. They would not be able to see that if you flash stock.

I flashed mine a few days ago after seeing this thread. THANK YOU! Moved on from the Dinan stage 2 flash. I am running MHD stage 2+ but with my stock DP. I checked with MHD and since I am otherwise FBO and not tracking the car I'm good to go. The power is awesome! Car is overall running smooth but in some situations it feels like it is still adapting. What's everyone else running and how's been your experience?

There is some kind of low throttle issue with this particular tune. Others are reporting it. I'm actually flashing back to stock for now but will be updating again as soon as they address this. It's a little too surgey and clunky for me right now but the fact that it's unlocked is everything. I'll wait for them to update the maps. I might be ready for stage 2 by then.

I know exactly what you mean. I actually reached out to them about it. I’ll share their feedback with the group.

This software-only DME unlock for late e-chassis n55 has been great. How nice it is to not have to remove the intake manifold, remove the DME, spend $100+ and wait a week for a bench flash, then re-assemble everything.

I've used a JB4 on the X1 for a few years, so I'm now running one of the free BMS back-end flashes (the "pump bef") with the JB4. Definitely much smoother power delivery. Not sure if its any faster, though. I've not encountered the low throttle issues others are reporting with the MHD off the shelf maps.

It's definitely a tune/map issue and not a problem with the MHD system. They will resolve it. I just hope it's soon, I love their work.

I just did the BEF for JB4 a few days ago, ran it for 2.5 years without. It is so much smoother, I didn't expect it.

I flashed it again. This time I did NOT use linear throttle mapping. I only did a quick test and it seems much better than when I did it last time with linear throttle. Not perfect but usable at least.

It's pouring rain and 50 degrees out and I'm on snow tires so no logs today. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get to take several and send to MHD and Twisted.

Waiting for spring to pull the trigger, hopefully by then they will have resolved the throttle issue.

Same here. Spring time will be fun, springs/shocks, MHD flash, maybe new wheels/tires....

Here is the data logging MHD needs in order to improve the tune. I'm unable to do so at the moment because of traveling but if anyone wants to help out the group feel free to send them your logs.

For the logs i need you to do the following:

****DSC Completely turned off for all logging****

1. normal driving acceleration from a dead stop up to cruising speed and cuise for like 20-30 seconds.
2. 3rd and a 4th gear WOT pull from 2800-3000rpms start point up to about 6500rpms
3. a third gear shifting into 4th gear WOT pull. starting in 3rd gear around 3500rpms or so. once in 4th hold WOT for about 3-4 seconds and let off. (this checks post shift timing recovery).

Please include the following parameters in yours logs:

Accel Ped. Pos.
Boost
Boost target
Boost Target Ex
Fuel mode
Gear
IAT
Lambda bank 1
LTFT
MAF
Oil temp
Rail pressure mean
RPM

The new update has 1.6 maps and the weird throttle issue seems to be totally resolved in my car so far. Will continue testing but really nice update. I encourage everyone to try it.

Does idle feel normal with the update? Throttle and idle were both off with the previous one for me. Thanks

Yes it feels normal with power increases now. No more throttle issues at least on my car it's resolved.
