Thermostat
I got my Thermostat replaced after engine warning light.
It seems like this should have been a recall item because it is guaranteed to fail. One good thing out of all this is that I got a 320i as a loaner, now I appreciate my car so much more |

I agree with you Njerts. At 40k it should have been warranty. I had mine replaced at 52K miles. Out of warranty. My dealer told me they did not have an issue with the stat failing. I disagreed but did not get anywhere. Thermostats should last longer than 50k. I've read about them failing in the N20 motor.

BMW tech's do say if the thermostat fail, and the 'engine light service soon' comes on not to worry 'cause the thermostat will automatically open and stay open until is replaced. |

I had a cooler temp warning yesterday...first one.
when I got home I had a letter about the thermostat from BMW. I just took mine into the dealership. They did not replace the thermostat. |

I live in California, and I received my letter yesterday. The letter says the thermostat will be covered for 10y/100k mi. My thermostat was already replaced a few months ago.

thermostat warranty extension
I replaced my thermostat at about 75k miles with a mahle #11538648791. Asked BMW about reimbursement given this part (does it qualify as a "genuine BMW" part) and could not get answer without submitting claim. My hope and feeling is that it ought to, as an OEM BMW item per my mechanic.
Does anyone have any related experience or info on this warranty specifically? |
