I bought on my 61st birthday for my wife. No, it doesn't seem a car for younger people; it's for people that enjoy a well designed car. I've even run it in about 5 HPDE events including Circuit of the Americas.

28, bought it because it met my requirements of 300HP, car-like handling, but still a practical hatchback. The market for a vehicle like this is very very slim in the 30K price range. (CPO)
It has proved to be a great vehicle for this stage of my life. I can imagine if a kid came along unexpectedly, it would handle that as well. I see a lot of young couples in big cities buying X1s and other compact SUVs now. |

51 when I first saw it, bought it when 52 and have been enjoying it ever since. I forget that it is a SAV, only notice it when I look out the rear view mirror.

43, 2nd BMW. Bought a e90 328i at 37. Bought it because its a e90 at heart, with a throughly modern engine and transmission. Extra ride height is useful while my youngest is still in a car seat, but for the most part it still feels like driving a car. Hoping to keep this as long as possible until the kids are as old as possible so I can do a ED 3 series as a replacement.

29. First BMW. Bought it for the E90 heart, with higher ground clearance and better cargo (plus the fact it was cheaper was a major point).
It's about the 6th BMW in the family though. |

55 and my first BMW.
I really just wanted a small AWD/SUV commuter and this was one of the few that wasn't a no-frills entry level car. In the end I loved the size compared to other models (such as the Mazda CX3) that I was looking at. |

30. First BMW - purchased October 2015, 29 at the time.
There's a 2016 435i w/ 6 speed manual near me, so tempted to trade in for it. |

My dads x1 was a 70th birthday present to himself wanting a practical & fun BMW with a higher up ride than s standard saloon/estate. He test drove the x1, x3 and x5 and just found the x1 the perfect fit. And 6mths later he's still over the moon with his choice.

I'm 62 and first BMW was a 75 2002.
In the garage is presently a X3, X1 28i, and a 3.0 Z3. The plan is to swap out the X3 another X1 but this one will be a 2015 35i |

Same reasons as above. I'm a wagon fanatic at heart and this is as close to a 335i wagon as I could get because folks in the US hate wagons. |

X1 fan
I'm 67 and I have been a fine-car fan all my life. Have owned Porsches, Audi Turbo, Saab Turbo Euro-spec 16 valve, Supras etc.
But my last 3 cars have been really nice BMWs. My present 2012 X1 with Sport Package is gorgeous and amongst the most enjoyable cars that I have owned. Its even nice to just stand back and look at it. I get a lot of compliments on it . I love it. [and it doesn't seem to burn any gas, yay] |
