x1 and towing?
Hi All,
I'm looking for a 2nd vehicle, I read that the x1 can tow something like 7xx kg however I cannot seem to find a hitch from either the factory or aftermarket. Anyone have any experience with this? Now that the USA is getting the car hopefully accessories start showing up. Thanks. |

As stated in other threads on this topic, there are both factory and aftermarket tow hitches available. I personally went with a Hayman Reese hitch which is a beautifully designed hitch. When you remove the ball and tongue, you can't even see the rest of the hitch/bar. FYI, can tow up to 1400kg.

Bmwdave, can you elaborate how you can get a factory hitch? I haven't seen it in any of the ordering guides I have seen.
Maybe you aren't from the US, I can't tell on my phone, but sure would like to know how I can get a hitch. I just want to tow my bikes. |

You're right, i'm not from USA (from Australia). At the time I purchased the X1, a few years ago now, there was a factory option. I can't find any info about it at present on the Australian site any more though presently either. Perhaps aftermarket is the way to go - that's the direction I went anyway.

Only towing information I have found seems to mention a towing capacity of about 4400 pounds in an older issue of motor trend on the web.
I asked my dealer about hitches and their accessories guy is trying to find a factory part, but I think is struggling. I emailed a company in Germany and they said the X1 hitch is in development but they wont ship to the USA. Think it is too new to the USA for the aftermarket to have a hitch made for it yet. Might be a few months. Either way, going to put a hitch on my s drive whether it is next month or early next year.
